Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I acknowledge that the GT and Jetta are different models (e.g. demand, stock) but its definitely something you can work off.

I got my Golf last year on road for just below retail cost (1.9 TDI Confortline, Manual, Sunroof, Metallic paint). If you are willing to do the leg work (or in my case, be on the phone to dealers all day) it can be done.

the new audi a4 runs a common rail system with the same block as the current 2.0 litre... or so i believe. i'm guessing this will feed through and become the mainstream instead of PD.

i'm contemplating a new diesel GT DSG. does being built in wolfsburg mean more solidity/quality etc?

i'm actually tossing up between a few.. because there's the golf naturally, but then there's also the A3 sportback with the same 2.0 tdi dsg drivetrain. but also new class diesel, but i wont go into that.. but to the point, there's quite a discrepancy between the GT diesel and the A3. they're both 1410kg kerb and have exactly the same running gear. but the audi is posted as quicker and more fuel efficient, somewhere in the order of a couple of tenths faster, and 157g CO2/km compared to 169. it's also a rip at 48 grand... can anyone shed any light?

            thanks

Figures I have sitting in front of me literally state

                    $41,268 and $43,831 with DSG.

I am also considering getting one of these baby's, when i went down to the dealer they said there wouldn't even be a demo in WA till Nov.
If thats the case means a wait till march/April for a 08 build

                    (sorry hi by the way)

ey welcome to the forum. that must be rrp they've given you.

the rrp from my dealer is 42 (on road)

i said that the price would have to have a 3 at the front for me to be interested and he said fine.

going to see him on saturday to talk price because ill be able to sign on saturday.

i love that huge black grille

                      ill report back on saturday

oh and about the demo model thing... id guess they would get absolutely thrashed especially since its a new model so id be a bit careful if you plan on keeping your car for more than a few years, plus you probably wont save much anyway

just placed an order for the GT Sport diesel 125kw manual silver golf

paid 40k which was 2500 off retail (had to work hard for that small margin too)

delivery expected mid next month im so excited i cant wait.

thanks for the feedback guys ill do a proper write up when i get the car (apparently it'll be one of the first to be reg'd)

Hmmm, I'm still not sold on that colored front grill. a bit too reminiscient of the GTI. The grey one hides the grill change though & looks pretty sweet.

I've got the Candy White GT that BarneyBoy mentioned in his earlier post & yeah, I probably got screwed by the stealer in Adelaide by not getting much off the full price, but I thought the overall package of the GT wasn't a bad price to begin with. About the only thing the stealer threw in were some car mats!

All up, including rego, delivery, full tank of 98 & of course the car, it cost a shade under $39,000.

I also managed to keep the insurance cost the same as my old Daihatsu Charade at $530pa!

I still haven't seen BarneyBoy on the road, but there is a grey one in the Adelaide CBD that I spot every so often.

                            Congrats on the order GermanwithaVdub.
