New GT Sport - fair price?

ey guys... i'm pretty sure im going to be ordering a new gt sport diesel and passing on my current oil burner to another family member (not trading in).

What would be a fair price to expect? the retail is 37490 (not including on roads) plus some hundreds more for metallic paint but thats all i want. i dont want to pay more than 40.. is that a reasonable expectation?

Two questions, may be dumb, though:
(1) Do they have diesel GT sports?
(2) Are you willing to buy a demo model?
You can actually go onto I think it is Carsales.com.au and bulk email dealers to see what stock they have, and they can contact you via email/phone. Beats running around and dealing with fools.

thats correct. You dont ask for a deal. You make an offer. They say yes or no. They will either make a counter offer or come to the party. Its up to you how u react from then on in.

But youre right. If you walk in and say "umm i might want one of these cars oneday and was wondering if i umm could get a discount if i decide to get one maybe some time next year or something" You will walk out with your tail between your legs.

Decide what you want and how much you are willing to pay b4 u talk price.

As its a brand new addition to the VW lineup I'm not 100% sure you will get a good deal as there would be others wanting the same car and deal etc.

this is true. Id say if youre willing to wait for your car then a good deal should still be possible. But if u want quick delivery there will be limited cars available so good luck!

yep im willing to wait, after all i already have a golf that i love to bits. i think what ill do is before anything else, ill tell them im not willing to pay more than 40 on road and make it very clear. if they still entertain me, ill know im in thanks guys, ill let you know how it goes.

We have only one dealer in Adelaide, so the desire to give a low price is not what the stealer here is inclined to do. 'Take or leave it' is the line they take.

In the end, I bought mine through Private Fleet. They did all the running around, sourced the model and equipment I wanted. I gave them an option of two colours, (not expecting miracles). They get a cut from the dealer, so all I did was pay the ex tax price to the dealer. I drove mine home to SA, but they'll also deliver it to your door, full tank of gas either way). I then registered it and payed the stamp duty. Can't recommend Private Fleet more, saved $4050 off the RRP.

With the Aussie dollar so high, there's a fair amount of margin in many of the models, particularly if VW Australia had ordered the stock when the dollar was much lower (as in my case). The other thing in my favour was that I bought in the last week of June. The end of the month is the best time to buy, as many dealers have targets to reach, with even one sale meaning a discount on their next order from VW.

Hello, it has been a long time since i have posted here (or the vwvortex for that matter).... i was wondering if the gt sport tdi (with dsg) has the flappy paddles (like the a3 2.0tdi) or is much the same as as the current model comfortline. also, what other features are new? if anyone has a specification list i would really appreciate it.

i was thinking of holding off for a new golf until the mkVI hit our shores, but it is likely not due here until 2009 (thanks for the updates phaeton!)... in saying that, i am throwing around the idea of picking up a gt sport tdi - more car for your money than an a3, and iirc as a 2008 (new) model they will be wolfsburg built (yes?). very tempting indeed.

No, not the only one at all - sevfive on this forum has a CW GT. We're the only two folks in 'town' who HAVE cars While it's not common car here, I see the odd one or two about. I like it that way. But based on population, Adelaide will end up with about 40 of the original GT shipment.

Mine was a DSG, sunroof, iPod, tinting, mats, paint protection, upholstry protection.
The dealer price was just under $39,000. Added to that was registration and Stamp Duty ($620.00 & $1508.00). Only thing added to that was a $100 Virgin flight and a $55!! cab ride to the dealer. The dealer even gave me a full tank of 98 - that got me home. So around about a 10% discount - I'm happy with that.

The DSG GT does have the 'flappy paddles'.

Looks like the Red Brick cloth is still standard, and the diesel gets a Temp gauge rather than a boost gauge. And according to the brochure's pics, it looks like the GT badge on the wheel has disappeared.

The GT Sport replaces the Sportline. Its equipment level far exceeds the Comfortline (you can read it in the brochure) with dual zone A/C, Brake Assist, Fog lights, ESP, 17" alloys, Large MFD, DSG paddles, and those two great motors (TSI & TDI). It's also 5 grand dearer, too!

Based on my purchase on a new Jetta yesterday (VW Camberwell Melbourne), I think it would be a very reasonable expectations to be able to walk away with a drive-away price of 90% of the retail price (that is, 33k based on the retail price of GT Sport).

I acknowledge that the GT and Jetta are different models (e.g. demand, stock) but its definitely something you can work off.

I noticed that this is still a PD motor for the TDI. Any idea when they will be going to the common rail?
