      The deal fell through..

The fellow sold it to someone else, just after I print him a bank cheque for a deposit and after a verbal agreement...who does that.

Oh well, until I find another one next time...

So I'm still looking..but this time interstate. The one's in QLD at the moment have quite the milage, or just a bit overpriced..

          So I came across this...
2008 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTI DSG V MY08 Private Cars For Sale in NSW - carsales.com.au

Anyone had a look at this in Newcastle? Comments? Thoughts? What's the deal with transfering and refunding rego?

Things I'm looking out for is significant wear and tear the the leather and extending the warranty. QLD stamp duty will be a b**ch though!! Almost cancels out any saving I may make..damn!

In NSW you just walk into the RTA and fill out a form and pay the stamp duty to transfer it. Not sure about refunds and interstate transfers.

Pretty much.....but yes, it is amazing value..but I didn't think reverse cameras existed/ was an option at that time?
Also, from the photos, does the leather look pretty worn out? Seems to be lacking floormats as well....

I'll make an enquiry anyway. Is this place far out of Melbourne? (I love that City!)

Not sure how it works in Qld when bringing in a vehicle from interstate, but I can tell you that from what I have experienced, it is easier to have the car deregistered and either shipped or collected and driven back yourself. I have bought interstate on 3 occasions, twice from Victoria and more recently my son purchased a demo GTI from Qld. On the first occasion from Vic to NSW car was delivered via Carrier to me unregistered and the process was to obtain a blueslip, then a CTP greenslip and then go to the RTA and pay stamp duty, rego costs etc... On the second occasion I drove the trade in vehicle to Victoria and picked up the vehicle unregistered but with a permit to drive it home to NSW and then again had to have blueslip inspection etc..... Same story just recently with the new GTI, one bonus is that you might be able to negotiate a slightly better price (deregistered) with a dealer as it's easier for them to take the plates off the car, go to their local RTA and simply get a permit, get whatever refund they're entitled toand then to either have the buyer to collect and drive it home or to have it shipped interstate. That's been my experience anyway =)

I made an enquiry to the seller, and asked a series of questions, and got only 3 word responses, 5 if I was lucky, however, this really struck me a bit...

I asked if the car had been in an accident prior..and got this as a response "car had small hit on drivers door and front guard all great and you would not know". Should I be worried? A red car is particularly hard to colour match from what I hear..

I always though red being a flat colour would be the easiest colour to match - its the metallic and the pearls that are near impossible to match.

If in doubt ask if they can provide you with some photos of the repaired area, personally I'd prefer to view it in person and check it right over

Red is very hard to match because it changes shade very easily due to fading. The Red paint can be different shade from front to back or side to side as one of my friends has found out. His TR 06 GTI was a different shade of red between the left front qtr panel and right qtr panel (probably due to the previous owner parking it in under a open car port). Two smash repairers had a tough time trying to repaint the bonnet and ended up having to blend in both front qtr panels and A pillars to match. Flat white is the easiest to colour match.

If the car has had front end or bonnet damage, it mught pay to check the bolts and paint colour in the engine bay to see if they have been removed or moved. Also a Pre-Purchase Inspection by an independent VW repairer (with under body check) might prove beneficial if the car is of real interest to you.

Yeah I think I might give that a miss just because I'm not too sure if I want to risk it! (Sorry poyta, I know it sounds like a good deal). But I noticed this:
2009 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTI DSG V MY09 Private Cars For Sale in QLD - carsales.com.au

Priced dropped from 32k to 30k..only thing is that it doesn't have leather. Damn! It's also missing all the exterior GTi badging, and from the bottom left corner of the interior photo, the seat looks like it's plain grey and not even checkered Tartan like the others. Something amiss? Otherwise a good deal I think......
