I got my loan from RAC in WA it was much easier getting it than with banks.
If you have trade-in that will bring your borrowing amount down too. Maybe try few different car yards if you have more than one and get a quote from them too or try car brokers

        oh yes welcome and enjoy

That sounds like full price to me. NEVER go with the full price. You should easily get a few grand off. Get some ideas from here as to what other people have paid, and walk in knowing that its been done before and that they can do it again.

            Hi
A few days ago I would have said you are getting a raw deal, however have
you seen the Australian dollar drop over the last few days. 50 grand might
end up being cheap for the gti

              Kevin,
I have just used a company called fleet network who I found on line and have since ordered my 2.0TDi Comfortline through at over $3000 better than I could get my self. No, I do not work for them ( still in the navy actualy.. not for long ) but after telling other people about my deal, I have found I am not alone... I will say, I have not got it yet but a "fleet" manager has contacted me saying that he won the "tender" and will deliver my car.. Might be worth a try.
              Cheers,
              Brad

I think a few others (Babee J and DSGTI off the top of my head) got a better deal than that - lower price and more stuff. Check their previous postings perhaps? Just go in there, put in your offer and say take it or leave it (in a nicer way of course!).

I went with Esanda through VW. Their establishment fees were high but they offered a great fixed interest rate and were willing to loan the whole amount + put a higher balloon payment at the end, which worked out well for me. The dealer might also be willing to throw in something if you do it with them (since they get a pretty decent commission I believe).

If I had bought a new car though I would have gone with a credit union - their interest rates would have been slightly lower and they usually waive most govt/establishment fees. Check www.infochoice.com.au for a comparison of the different deals going around. I personally would have gone with RTA Staff Credit Union but there are quite a few deals going around these days.

                Good luck!

BTW, can I ask a stupid question? what actually, specifically does the "DRIVEAWAY" price include?I really appreciate if anybody can explain me one by one here last time the dealer calculated an approximate driveaway price 4 me:50k! she said this include car price, dealer delivery price, CTP, Number plate fee, and registration fee. So...is this 'driveaway price' the same thing which u guys are talking about here?? I cannot understand, HOW CAN THE CTP AND REG FEE BE INCLUDED/ these should be submitted to insurer and RTA...

                      thank u guys!

                        G'day,

I've just ordered a Jetta and I'll read off the additional charges which are written on the sale contract and the corresponding costs.
I'm not sure about how the system works in NSW, I'm in Melbourne so I guess VicRoads and RTA may have slightly different systems and charges.

                        So here goes:

Registration Fee - $168.60 (12 months of rego)
Compulsory Third Party - $402.60 (Paid to T.A.C. I think... not 100% sure)
Vic Roads Admin Fee - $10
Slim Line Number Plate - $50.80
                        Dealer Delivery - $1995.00
Stamp Duty - $1080.00 (Think it's calculated as a certain % of the price of the car + any accessories + dealer delivery)

And in response to your question of how it can be included, well I'm not exactly sure, but after reading some of the 'What did you pay..' threads on here; people say that dealers have quite a 'healthy' margin on the cars which allows them to include these charges (or partially include them) as part of negotiation.

And yes, I have also been amazed at some of the great prices + specs of the VWs sold on this forum, it's really helped me in deciding on what sort of price I should be negotiating for.

So hopefully the charges above are helpful.

In terms of CTP, stamp duty, rego. These fees are arranged by the dealer on your behalf and of course proceeds go to the appropriate departments. There is very little if no margin for these items as they are compulsory government charges.

That means when you get the car it is properly registered for roads (you should arrange with an insurer or your dealer for comprehensive insurance).

THANKS! But what i can't understand is:
as u guys said, most of portions of the driveaway price is compulsory and not easy to be negotiated, but how can some guys here get a 45k price on a approximately 50k model? does it mean they got a very low "dealer delivery price?'(what my deal told me is the delivery fee is compulsary..."

PS: is the CTP included in a "full insurance"? or I have to buy them seperately?

I love this place, always full of friendly and patient answers. I hope I could post some pictures of my dream car in the future!

Basically how they work it out is that the dealers have certain margin on the car itself...

                              e.g. Purely hyperthetically
A Jetta TFSI, base price is $39,990 r.r.p.
However, to the dealer, the car is less the the r.r.p cos I suspect there is a wholesale price and/or commission from VW for selling each car.

So hyperthetically, say after wholesale price and/or dealer commission, the TFSI Jetta costs.... $35,990.. then there is a $4000 difference between the list r.r.p and real cost of car.

That's where the room to move during negotiation is. So basically, when u negotiate, always negotiate on the 'Drive Away' price. Any discounts u get off the car will be pooled together as the 'Allowance' section on the sale contract. The 'compulsory' charges can be taken out of the dealer's margin rather than your own pocket.

The dealer will basically look at their margin and look at whether it's healthy enough for them and if the answer is yes, then they will sell it. At the same time, keep in mind that dealers have to make a profit on each sale... i.e.... in no event will they make a real loss on a car.. unless it's really really extraordinary cicumstances.

CTP is not like 3rd party from the insurance company. One dealer explained that it's insurance paid to TAC so that if u get into an accident, the ambulance will be paid by TAC rather than yourself... or something like that.

So just to give an example....
                              Jetta TFSI: $39,990
                              Dealer Delivery: $1995
Stamp Duty: 2.5% of above total = $1049
                              Rego: $168
                              CTP: $402
                              Vic Roads Admin: $10
so all up for this Jetta, it'd be: $43,614 drive-away without any negotiation.

Say the dealer 'buys' the car from VW at $35,990. Without negotiation, they'd be making $7624 from the sale.

The 'compulsary' charges are indeed compulsary. It's just an issue of whether the drive away price u negotiate for will cover the 'compulsary' charges as well as leaving the dealer a relatively good profit margin.

Hope this helps to explain it a little bit better, sorry it's a bit long winded.

                              Cheers!
