Looking at buying a Golf. Can I get some advice please?
I have a late 2005 Comfortline 2L TDI with 85K on the clock - absolutely no issue with DSG - if you drive consistently in stop-start traffic - IMO the only way to go
a disproportionate amount of DSG issues occur in the higher powered golfs (gti, r32 etc)
Keep in mind that although the TDI's don't produce the same power figures as these high powered golfs they are right up there in terms of torque, in fact they have more torque than the GTi's. I seem to recall them saying something about the torque limit on the 6speed DSG to be around about the 400Nm mark which with some chipped TDI's ( like mine ) you can easily go over making the 6 speed manual a better option if you ever intend to go down this path. I hear the 7 speed DSG in the mk6's is rated even lower hence why you can only get the 6SpeedDSG in TDI trim. With all my complaints about the DSG I do have to admit its the sweetest automatic style transmission I've ever driven and as Stickshift3000 said it really suits the TDI power-curve.
