Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MK5 GTI buying tips

    Hi Guys,

I have recently (yesterday) sold my mk4 GTI and am now looking at a couple of mk5 GTI's.

    Couple of quick questions.

What are the major service intervals and general costs with these services.
I believe there is a 60,000km service which involves a new timing belt? Also the timing belt should be changed at either 100,000km or 4 years?

What are somethings to look out for?
    -Aircon?
    -Electrics?

Anything else i should know or some tips

PCV Diverter Valve OEM's Are Know To break.

    - problems with mechatronic unit in DSG
    - problems with air con compressor
    - ensure timing belt has been changed at 4 year mark
    - obviously ensure the vehicle has the user manual and service history

Make Sure You try And Get one With Immaculate GTI Denvers.

Sorry are you looking for a manual or DSG.

I just got a service done and was told at the 60000km my next service that the DSG geabox fluid needs to be changed and the service would cost $1300. I'm on the south coast of NSW and it was quoted by a VW dealer. No way am i paying 1300.

Yeah i heard the Diverter Valve's can fail too but it should be an easy and cheap fix if needed.
