    Hello members,

I have the above car with 60,000kms on the clock. She had her major service last week including new brakes. Before I took her in for service I noticed a rough idle when sitting still. This is even when the engine is not cold.

I explained this to the mechanic and he said it may be the throttle body??

The issue is still there - However before jumping to conclusions as I have never driven a VW at all. Does anyone experience any problems with rough idles?

The car is totally stock inside and out.

    Any input would be fantastic!!

    Thanks.

Did you mechanic run diagnostics on your car before coming to that conclusion?

I would hope so, she was serviced at the dealership.

I will be taking her back - Not going to be paying top dollar when I am not totally happy.

        Subscribed.
Mine is currently at 58,000km so due for the 60K in the next month or so and I have a pretty rough idle also. Will be hoping this gets sorted at the service but look forward to you getting yours sorted in the meantime.

        cheers,

Could be the throttle body or Mass Air Flow Meter (MAF).
Not sure of how confident you are under the hood but an easy way to check if it is the MAF is when the rough idle is happening turn the engine off, open the bonnet and disconnect the MAF. Start the engine again. If the car now runs smooth then its the MAF. Note: DO NOT drive around with the MAF disconnected.

Below are some links on cleaning the MAF. These are for a MK4 Golf and this is something to attempt at your own risk.

Search on the Web for VW MAF and Throttle body info as there is a bit about, including some on this very site. e.g. http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f15/...ice-58037.html
