Option Code, decoder

If you have you manual for your golf handy, head to http://igorweb.org/equidec/ and put in the option codes separated by semicolons and you will get some extended information on what those codes actually refer to. It works from my experience on MKIV and MKV...

Here is my data as an example;

Does anyone know the option codes for RNS510, Bi-Xenon? My wife is interested in a 2nd hand Mk5 with these fitted and I am wondering if they are OEM or not.

It's not hard to tell if they are.

OEM RNS510 will have no amp under the passenger seat and will no GPS antenna but a standard one. The amp is easy to spot by pushing the seat back and the antenna will be the same as all the other golfs, the GPS part is a round flat part at the front of the antenna.

Bi-Xenon is even easier, the up and down control next to the headlight switch won't operate, there will be pop out parts in the front bumper for the washers, the bi-xenons will do a self test on start up so you will see a pattern, there will be no sign of additional wiring behind the headlights, there will be a 5 litre water container with sensor for low water, there will a lack of two height sensors on the front and rear sway bar, the park lights will be in the high beam area and not the area next to the indicator below and they will only be fitted to the GT Sport, GTI or the R32 (they are standard on the R32).

Thanks for the info. It was supposed to be an factory optioned Pacific but I couldn't see that Bi-Xenon was an option for that. Turned out to be an optioned Sportline but was too much money for a 2yo car that is now in effect 2 models old.

A 2 year old car wouldn't have had the RNS510, there were in short supply until the later part of last year and only shipping on builds from early 2008.

And Bi-Xenons were only available on a GT Sport upwards so it's likely that they have fitted one of the illegal $150 ebay specials.

Pacific model was only available from mid last year.
