Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but a straight swap of the knob for the Jetta/GT/GT Sport knob isn't possible.

AFAIK there's parts underneath that differ to the R32/GTI's. Because of the way the lock out knob works on them, the parts underneath operate 90 to the direction of the standard knob. A fair degree of butchering is required to get the new knob to work, and there's no guarantee that it will operate as expected.

If there's a way to do a straight swap, no-one would be more pleased than me to do the change...

Ever considered a career in the Diplomatic Corps, Robbie?

Amongst other things (try searching on Watercooled, JettaMkV and Vortex too), my skepticism was based on posts like this:
VWVortex.com - Need HELP w/ DSG Shift Knob Please
It's a good read, been following it for years.
              That's why I said AFAIK

Heres my tip: get your vw specialists/gurus to fit it and lets have a report back on how it went.
As I said, if there's a way to do a straight swap, no-one would be more pleased than me...

And I'm not the only one who's skeptical about the conversion - you've posted on Golfmkv and received similar concerns, haven't you?

BTW, the pedal conversion is a straight swap and is a good upgrade.
