  • My R was too slow and boring: welcome C2 Stage III + United Motorsport code

If you same like me and think R32 stock is nice but luck some real kick to belong to those cars that can be called special, there is an easy solution: Turbo

Here comes 14 PSI worth of Boost

Kit is Stage III by C2 with United Motorsport software, with thermal coating on hot side. I use electronic boost controller. Dyno was 4WD, they could not get good ignition coil read out, therefore speed not RPM. Disregard numbers, this dyno read low.

My 200 cell cat that came as part of the kit started to disintegrate
I suggest to check yours before install - bin it and get proper 100 cell, there are posts from other members who had his cat rotated in the pipe killing turbo on MK IV
I decided it's time for a upgrade. Now I have this setup up and running.

    3" downpipe > twin 100 cell cat > 3.5" pipe > dog leg muffler > 3.5" pipe > straight thru muffler

Result is not good. VR6 known for resonance at 2200RPM and it's there!
Way too loud, way too much drone up to 3000RPM. After which it sounds like F1 Turbo on 56PSI
    Done some testing :
    Metric units
    0 to 100 km/h: 4.5 +- 0.18s
    400m: 12.8 +- 0.17s, @159 km/h
    90-120 km/h: 2.3 +- 0.18s
    200 meters: 8.3 +- 0.18s, @142 km/h

Come back to the shop to get spiral muffler installed after cat's for testing.

    Exhaust was this morning:
    3" downpipe > twin 100 cell cats on 3" pipes > 3.5" pipe > straight thru muffler > 3.5" pipe > straight thru muffler
    Runing 14 PSI

    Exhaust was this afternoon:
    3" downpipe > twin 100 cell cats on 3" pipes > 3.5" pipe >spiral muffler > straight thru muffler > 3.5" pipe > straight thru muffler
    Boost dropped to 12 PSI

    Spiral muffler example:

    Car lost 2-3 PSI!!!
I bumped it back up via EBC settings. But it still costed me 0.2 seconds 0-100 is now 4.7 sec, was 4.5 sec.

Looks awesome and unique, that's for sure, but why not just get a Golf R and flash it and get the same result?

I had 1.8 Turbo Audi before, I am soo not coming back to small engines, eben on boost. Do not like lack of power from standstill.

Beside, next coming Short Runner + CAM's + MAF + Injectors and E85 file. 600BHP, here I come
You cannot get that much out of R, there is no kit around. APR worth about 400BHP and cannot be converted to E85.

I recall reading about City Performance Centre turbocharging an R32 although I'm pretty sure it was a Twin turbo. Cost was about $50,000 for the turbo kit, DSG re-flash, clutch and diff so not cheap but it had something like 250KW at the wheels and I remember hearing it did 0-100 in 3 seconds and the quarter mile in high 11's. Super-car stuff. If only I had that sort of money.

City did a HPA single turbo based on a Garrett GT30R turbo.
11.8 in full street trim, it is an awesome car and awesome to see done in Australia.

Wow the turbo is tight in there isn't it! Do you have any issues with heat and affecting some of the surrounding stuff? This car looks great and I'd imagine it'd be an experience to drive too. Good work mate!

Sweet as. What were the 2 configurations on that dyno chart? Just 2 levels of boost?
