Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • DSG reset upon service

I've just driven my car home having had it's 60k + DSG service done and the gearbox is not as smooth as before it went in. Of particular concern is when the car is braked to a stop, easing off the brake just at the end to make a smooth stop - it feels like the gearbox disengages the clutch just before stopping and then re-engages it as the car stops, which leads to a jerky stop (kind of like when you brake hard and then jerk to a stop as the pads "bite").

So two questions: is the DSG reset when a DSG service is done? And linked to this, could the kind of behaviour above just be part of the gearbox 'settling in' after a service?

The fresh oil may be highlighting some wear in the Mechatronics unit in the DSG. It's usually the 2nd to 1st downshift (You can observe this on your MFD) as you're about to pull up, that becomes clunky and abrupt.

The DSG is not reset when it is serviced. The servicing is just new oil and new oil filter.

I just had my 30000 km service and told them that my DSG was getting a bit grabby at the lights and stuff. They reset the DSG with the computer, but when they handed it back to me they told me that I needed to finish the reset. Had to drive with the the car in 4th or 6th keeping it between 3000 and 4500rpm for 4 to 5 minutes, then keep it in 3rd or 5th between 3000 and 4500rpm for 4 to 5 minutes. I then had to do a full on stop, before taking off flat strap in 1st without changing gear. It will change up on it's own.

Apparently all these shenanegans helps sort your gearbox out after it has been tampered with. They said that if I didn't bother doing this the gearbox would eventually work itself out, but following the above proceedure would sort it out way quicker.

It seems to have worked so far.......
