This noise developed recently and my mechanic (German Auto) is suggesting that this may not be an issue but as the car is still under extended warranty I should get it seen to. What are the chances that Alliance will agree to fix this under warranty?

Hey Zone,
does it sounds like a faint 'tinny' kind of rattle? if so ive notice the same thing on mine. If i were you i would get it fixed uner warranty. Ive been told that to fix the rattle will be a rather large job and cost plenty of cookies.MkV R32 DBP...

1)They claim to be independent of Allianz but I don't beleive this as they are 2 big companies selling each others products so hardly what I would call impartial. They deined this when I questioned them of course.
2) They are fricken hopeless and at all times try to keep you in the dark as to what they are doing to your car when they have it.
At least with German Auto I will get independent advice.Last edited by thezoneR32; 30-04-2011, 10:41 AM.Volvo S60 RD T6

Yea thats me.. stumbled accross your post and noticed the same noise on my car. I popped into German Auto the other day and they informed me that its most likely the DSG cluth plate rattling around a bit, problem is to be 100% sure theyd need to take it appart and inspect which from what i understand is quite a large job. So im not really sure what to do about this one.. i guess it could be worse but i do want my car to stay in top order. It would be great to get another opinion on it.. or even hear what they say about yours. if you get it checked out let me know..Last edited by JV003; 04-05-2011, 05:45 PM.MkV R32 DBP...

Not sure I want to go them for 2 reasons,
1)They claim to be independent of Allianz but I don't beleive this as they are 2 big companies selling each others products so hardly what I would call impartial. They deined this when I questioned them of course.

Are you kidding me? I'm guessing you want a copy of Obama's birth certificate and believe that Harold Holt is sunning himself with Kim Jong Il? Of course the dealerships and Allianz are drinking virgins blood, smoking cigars made from babies hair and running over nuns while trading pornographic text messages.
Allianz are an insurance company that VW chose to use as a partner for their extended warranty. They pay the dealerships for the work, the dealer would have to convince them that it's a valid claim. Thereby, I'm sure much to your surprise, acting on your behalf. And remember, dealerships are businesses, they need to get paid to exist- they want to do the work. They need to do the work.
I'll send you the pictures of Area 51 so you can put them in your consipracy theory box with the proof that the moon landing was faked.

Update to this thread. I took the car to Solitaire VW and they said the rattle (which got louder when the A/C was switched on) was probably the dual mass flywheel so they pulled the trans out and so started a long "Dsicussion" with Allianz and VW oz who claim that it was probably the dual clutch and that Solitaire were to completely strip down the gearbox! From here there was lots of to-ing and fro-ing and in the end they decided to replace the dual mass flywheel but to be on the safe side VW Oz have also decided to fit a BRAND NEW GEARBOX! This will all be covered under extended warranty. My research tells me this will cost in the vicinty of $15-$18k! So anyone in two minds over getting the extended warranty my advice would be DO IT! Mine runs out in about 4 months so I call that a bloody close one!
Stupid thing is, other than the rattle the dsg worked flawlessly! Go figure.Last edited by thezoneR32; 08-06-2011, 07:50 PM.Volvo S60 RD T6
