  • Cam Follower Woes

Hey guys, im having a problem removing the fuel pump to access the cam follower.

In the how to guide i am stuck on the point where you "undo the metal line with a 17mm wrench but leave the rubber line attached it makes it easier to reinstall this way"

my car has two metal lines, the one next to it i cannot remove. there is zero room to get anything in there.

So i continued on.. an this is where i made an error.. i decided to remove the gold screw at the bottom

similar to the one i circled here

When i did that, something metal fell to the bottom of the engine bay, I am assuming a washer or similar.
I spent a long time looking for it and could not find anything.

In my frustration i decided to put it all back together again and try replacing the cam follower again tomorrow after Ive gathered more intel.

My question is, is this going to have detrimental effect on my car, and does anyone know what part i may of dropped?

The car starts and runs fine, ive been checking for any fuel leaks around the fuel pump and there is no evidence there. I just feel foolish that i have lost something in the engine bay. Careless mistake.

to clarify this is what i removed from the fuel pump, i know i shouldn't of but i wasn't thinking.. and something dropped out of the fuel pump along with the gold top.. im assuming it was a washer or seal of some sort, but i have no idea where it went. I couldn't find anything after searching for a while.

Ive reassembled it and the car is running fine, no leaks. But i just want to be 100% sure this wont go on me down the track.

has anyone had success removing the other metal line - advice/help much appreciated

Easy solution is to take the tray (under the engine) off. There's a black plastic puffy mat thing over it and whatever you dropped is probably under there.

You will need to jack the car up. You will also need a set of torx screw driving tools. On mine, two sizes are needed.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

It's probably just a washer, so don't stress and you'll need to jack the car up to get to it.

I just drop the car off at Lucas then sit down watch a video on my iPad and then yell out "Lucas is it done yet" Ask Tim he knows!!
