  • BSH Stage 2 Catch Can owners, Install advice

    Hi guys,

I currently have the BSH Stage 1 PCV revamp kit but after a bit of research noticed i should probably get a catch can as well to prevent any oil going back into the system and preserving the motor.

After a bit of reading i came across a thread that Australian cars are different to install a catch can kit and for the life of me cannot find that thread again.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to install a stage 2 BSH catch can kit for our oz TFSI setups?.

Ive hit up dubaddiction for the stage 2 upgrade for stage 1 owners, id rather get it all done in one hit.

    Cheers in advance

hey there.. only thing that will get in the way of the catch can, is your charcoal filter/cannister. I had my charcoal filter moved to under the front quarter panel (ontop of the wheel arch). Took my mechanic some welding and new hoses, but other than that you should be good to go. You can move your charcoal filter to anywhere in ur engine bay, however you will need extended hoses.

It not recommended to remove the charcoal cannister entirely, as you will get a strong smell of fuel into the cabin.

      hi mate,

thanks for the heads up - just out of interest what length/hoses did you use?
and what type of welding did u require.

if you have a photo of how you did yours that would be great, im going to attempt the install myself with the aid of a friend so any more tips and or a visual guide would be great help.

      cheers in advance

Heres a few photos I took. It was a little hard to get some good shots though.

Thanks for that, i can see what you mean by hard to get good shots.
It is a good start point for me nonetheless. Much appreciated.

Ill post pics up of what I've done when i get around to it.

Finally got the catch can on

Big thanks to Tim for giving me a hand and lending me his garage for the day to work out a solution.

We decided to mount the charcoal filter under the drivers side wheel arch next to the water tank (for the wipers) using a couple of heavy duty zip ties. Its in their perfectly.
Bought some fuel line hoses too to extend the connection which worked a charm.. biggest hurdle was getting the connectors off the exisitng fuel line (it was lined with hard coated plastic and metal inside the tube) which required a bit of cutting and patience.. with them off, some ring clamps sufficed to to hold it all together.

Then came the catch can and installing the PCV fix.. which required a bit of a push at the end to get one of the hoses on.

all in all it looks professional, neat and i love it.

Oh and i think this may have fixed my cold starts, last few days (after some cold Melbourne nights) the car starts with ease.

            Cheers

Awesome! similar set up to mine. Now just remember to empty the catch can every couple of months and don't be scared of the muck that comes out
