  • Boost Gauge in Mk5 gti

How do i install one ?

  • #2
I bought the New South Performance one off Parts4Euro. It came with instructions and I did it myself, though it wasn't the easiest task in the world. Had to pull out bits of dash, respray the new and existing halves of the steering column etc. The new fibreglass steering column cover was hard to fit and isn't the best quality The gauge matched the existing gauges though so it blends well. There are other gauges that fit in the air vent though. Many options really. Just have a look on the different tuning websites.

You may also need a tap to take pressure from, and there are a few on the market. Sometimes a suitable fitting comes with the gauge, and if not I have one option available:

What about one of these Pivot boost gauges that fits in the air vent? It plugs into the OBD connector and can also display oil or coolant temperatures.

Indeed but very pricey too. Also the readings are -100 to +200. That would work with water and oil temps well but it means boost levels are shows in KPa rather than the common PSI.

and it wont work if you have a chip tune.. according to that site anyway.

I recommend the Newsouth gauge. I have one and has performed flawlessly.

What did they sting you for that? My boost gauge came from Speedhut, and they custom make it to your needs in the USA, was about $250 delivered from memory back when the dollar was 80cents US. Very nice unit, and you can set the bezel / lights up however you want. Is on the expensive end of things though...I have basic VDO ones cheap!

                  .
No I think it says it you use a different ECU or a piggyback of some kind - a chip tune still uses the original ECU.

When you go for your GIAC flash to Lucas ask him to install this one for you. I have it and it looks OEM perfect...

That looks great. Is that in the door side vent ? I wonder how much it would cost for installation of just the gauge? I already have an APR flash

                          Get this...

                          P3Cars.com // VW MK5 Digital Interface

No need for boost hoses as it connects to the ODB port and it provides 0-100 timings too.
