  • The Time May Have Come!

Hi Guys, with the recent purchase of a 5m alloy boat I'm in need of a tow vehicle capable of towing the 1000kg (all up on trailer) toy......
I am not prepared to risk the Jetta's 118TSI / 7DSG drive line to do so as I intend to do some longer distance towing with it, so I feel it may be time to get into a 4 motion Tiguan... I'm tossing up between the 103 TDI and the 125TSI in manual form.
Any thoughts, or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Also if there is any interest in the Jetta let me know..... it's just done 42,500k, has the extended warranty (3 years to go)..... factory 16" wheels available.

Could you just get a cheapish ute as a tow vehicle and keep the Jetta? LPG Falcon ute?

I could be interested in some mods if you take the Jetta back to stock, but I hope you can find a way to keep the car.

Bizi, I've been looking at many options and what you have mentioned was considered but with my wifes car as well we would end up with 3 vehicles that I don't have the room for.

I reckon a 125TDI would tow it nicely

No comparison, If you want to tow then go the TDI everytime, 320NM of torque compared to 280Nm. Lets not forget you're also getting 6.5l / 100km of fuel consumption compared to 8.7 and with the TDI that figure won't budge much with a load on it whereas the TSI's will increase a lot when towing. If you want even more torque add a chip and you'll be touching on 400Nm.

              +1

I bought my 103 TDI golf because I tow a couple of bikes. It tows with ease, especially with a chip.

Thanks for the input guys...... I'm on the prowl for a Tig for sure, no matter which way I look at it, a Tig is far better suited to my new requirement....
Just need to get out of my Jetta now.... either I buy out the lease and sell or find someone to take over the lease for the remaining year and tax benefits that go with it.

TSI eh? So you chose to ignore the recommendations of the forum members here and not go the TDI then? Hope it works out for you.

Poyta, Couldn't find a suitable TDI in manual without buying new or Demo. I've been reading alot of reviews on towing with both engines..... some prefer the TDI, some prefer the TSI, but most prefer the TSI with the APR upgrade....
