Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Totally agree with both the guys above me haha. Us poms know what high mileage cars are - I mean I've barely owned a car under 130km and I've never had issues.

Funnily enough the only car I bought with low km's was the one that needed all the work. And regarding diesels - I've heard of VAG SDI engines (NA) making it to 400k MILES (so that's like what 650ish kms) which is why pretty much every taxi in the whole of europe uses them.

Yesterday i ticked over to 124k, I have no doubt that I will be up close to the 160k mark by this time next year, lots of trips up to regional NSW. One of my colleagues took my car for a spin the other day and commented that it still felt tighter and nicer to drive then his 6 month old VE Calais.

as others have mentioned make sure the car has logbook service history and check the overall condition of the car..

I would get a VW specialist to go over the vehicle to give you a proffesional opinion on the condition overall.. thing like diff ,gear box etc

How about 546,000km from a friend's '91 Subaru Liberty? And even with that on it she never had top top it up with oil other than the 12K oil changes. No wonder she traded it in (for $1000) on another one. I did everything to talk her into a Golf but the service histories won out in the end.
