  • LED on Drivers door.

    Hi,

A while back, someone made a post about there being a fix for the LED on the drivers door staying illuminated when you unlock the car and drive but I can't seem to find it.

If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

Yes, however my car was in yesterday for that same fault and there is a software update and possibly a module that requires replacement.

It is to do with the timing of the signal coming from the remote to unlock the car and the light flashing - it gets confused. It operates fine, just stops the LED flashing.

Rang the dealer last week to find out about the replacement module as I was wanting it done at the 15k service all in one go. They got back to me saying that they spoke to VW and they hadn't heard of any problem.

Got the service today and mentioned the LED again. Picked the car up this afternoon and they told me that they had ordered a replacement module on VW's instructions and I would have to bring it back in to get it replaced.

So the key I had with the car when the module was installed works remotely to lock and unlock. The key set that was at home that day now only works in the barrel not remotely?

Had mine replaced on Thursday also. Just went and checked and my second set of keys no longer remotely unlocks the car either . The doors will no longer automatically lock when you hit 20km/h either.

              Back to the dealer.... YAY!!!

I'm just glad one opened up here and I don't have to do a 200km round trip anymore.

                UPDATE....

Went in this morning and told them what happened and the service guy said "yeah, we need both sets of keys when we replace the module or only one set will work" to which I replied "why the hell wasn't I told that?" the only reply I got was a shrug of his shoulders.

I was then told it will take at least 2 hours to reprogram the keys "if we can get the system working".

They are also trying to charge me for a car while it is being done because I didn't buy the car off them.

WTF?!?!? They weren't even open when I got the car last November and if they had done it right the first time and did it with the service like I asked this would be the second time back there, not the third. I'm tempted to bring VW Aust to the party..

I'd involve the dealer's service manager first, but if you don't get satisfaction take it to VW Aus.

The guy I spoke to this morning was a BMW tech who didn't even work on the VW's yet he knew exactly what I was on about.

I went back this afternoon to organize the loan car with the VW service manager (who I have been dealing with all the way through this) and he basically said that as they haven't been open for long and have had little training and how were they to know? (service manager doesn't know yet a BMW tech does?? Right.) He also said that if I was unhappy, I should have taken it to the dealer I got the car from to have it fixed

At this point they lost me as a customer, I will be going elsewhere once this is sorted on Wednesday (I won't be getting my wifes BMW 118i through them either, which I was going to do on Wednesday)

I also got out of him that when he contacted VW the first time about replacing the part, he was told that they were replacing them but they would have to have a look at the car first (I had told him in our first conversation that I was happy to bring it in for them to have a look at it and order the part if necessary so when the time came for the service, it could all be done at that time). The answer I got was that he contacted VW and they were not replacing them. This he said was his way of politely getting around it (??) and what did it matter, I still had to bring it in.

I mean C'mon.. What sort a way is this to run a place? Especially a place that has only been open for a couple of months.

I'm trying to stay calm but this sort of thing just gives me the S@$%S.

I've got a letter to VW Aust ready to go but I'm not sure yet if I will hit "send". I might give it a couple of days.

there are only 1 model of module that require replacement, the other needs a software update on it.

as for the self encoding, I have heard about it, and i will search for it and give it a go myself I think.

The locksmith would have been quite happy to make and encode a new key for my Golf, if I had paid him the money he wanted.

I've since forgotten much of what the locksmith told me, but here's what I remember:

                          1. the MkV locking system is sophisticated and includes a memory in the remote key (to remember whether the car is locked or unlocked) and rolling codes (which I think meant the code in the key gets changed with use);

                          2. the remote can get out of synch with the locking module in the car (causing the red LED to stop flashing). Example ways of getting out of synch include: using a spare key (not the one just used in the ignition) to lock remotely and followed by using the other key to unlock remotely; and pressing the remote multiple times when out of range with the car;

                          3. the remote can be resynchronised with the car with a specific sequence (and without changing the lock module - I guess the lock module can fail, but I suspect a VW service person who recommends changing the lock module is just following a flowchart to solve a problem s/he does not understand). The sequence involved (from memory): starting the engine with the key; stopping the engine; and then a remote lock/unlock. I've forgotten whether the sequence also included a lock/unlock with the key in the door.
All this is true but it is not what was happened here. The keys were fine and causing no problems. There is a fault with some LED modules that if you unlock the car while the LED is in the "ON" cycle, it will stay on. Mine was one of them. When it was replaced, they only coded the key I gave them and didn't tell me they needed both.

I have tried the procedure in the manual to recode the key but it does not work. Even if it did, I would still have to go back to get the other stuff they messed op turned back on.

                            Ok..

Went back today to have the keys coded and the auto lock/unlock feature re-enabled.

                            2 hours later....

Both sets of keys work, all things like remote opening/closing of windows work, start the car and hit 20km/h.. the doors lock (yay), stop the car and take the key out.... the doors don't unlock .

Turns out they only enable them to lock, not both. I was also told that it will take another 2 hours to fix as they have to recode the keys and everything again to get it going.

Now this is an option that if I had the highline MFD or a VAGCOM, I could do it myself. Why do they have to redo the keys and everything?!?!?!? Because VW told them they had to thats why.

I thought this was a bit suss and called the dealer that I got the car from (they also programmed this feature for me origionally and didn't need to recode the keys to do so) and they said it is a simple thing to do.. just plug the car into the computer, go to the convenience settings and tick a box or two... 10-15 minute job. The person I spoke to also said they have had many people (wouldn't give numbers) come in to them to fix things that this other dealer had stuffed. If it wasn't a 2hr round trip and something this little I would be going there.

I'm gonna call VW in the morning before I take it in and find out exactly what the go is.. I wouldn't mind betting they are calming all this time and getting reimbursed by VW for the warranty work or something dodgey like that.

                              OK...

Everything works, checked it all before I drove out of the yard and it only took 20 minutes. I mentioned that I called a couple of dealers and all of them said 15-20min max.

Done, over and I never have to back to BALLARAT VW again.
