  • Recommended Dealer in Melbourne for GTI

    Hi all,

just wondering if anyone can recommend a good dealer in the Melbourne area?
I am looking at purchasing a new (or near new/demo) Mk5 Golf GTI and checking the difference in prices people have paid in this forum is crazy.
I can see I am going to have to haggle haggle haggle.
    Cheers.

Dont be chicken! My car is due in sept. Gimme $500 + my deposit and ill transfer my deal to you and ill go haggle over a new deal! its more fun than actually getting the car i reckon!
i wonder if its possible to make a career as a professional haggler?

Tim, you must be a masochist to go through the agonizing wait between the Deal and the Delivery all over again!!!

hahaa well im kinda joking. Im not in any hurry. And if youre willing to not choose your own spec there are cars available for almost immediate delivery. I had the choice of at least 10 cars already on the boat

Barloworld in Glen Waverley had a Demo - Red 3 dr with Leather they offered to me for 43k a couple weeks ago. Might still be there and I'm sure you could negotiate better price. It goes really well too

Thanks Lebowski...might have to check it out.
I am ideally looking for a 5dr DSG with leather...anyone have any ideas as to how much I should be looking at driveaway?

going by some of the better deals negotiated by people on this and another VW Forum I'd say 46 - 47k drive-away for a 5dr, DSG and Leather.

BTW, the Red 3dr I test drove was DSG. Brilliant car, but like you I want 5dr

                  hi ikitasa,

i bought my GTI in May, 5dr DSG + leather seat + sunroof + bluetooth.
Drive away price 48.5k. So what spec of GTI are you currently looking for? and what colour?

I have had a quote for a GTI, 5dr with DSG + leather + auto + paint + (dealer said esp - is that included as standard in the GTI?) drive away for 47500. Trying to get down to around 45000-46000...am i hoping for too much?

when negotiating remember that you have $3000 worth of dealer car wash to play with. Id consider that your minimum discount

Thanks for the tip...so when they say stuff like 'dealer delivery' (car wash i'm assuming! ), rego and stamp duty, etc...a lot of that stuff can be discounted? or can be played around with?

well rego and stamp duty are govt charges so they will always be charged. Dealer delivery isnt all profit but i believe it is where they make the bulk of their margin. If i were you id shoot for not paying any dealer delivery and if u get any options push for a small discount on each of them.

basically the deal I got was no dealer delivery and a further $500 off my $5000 worth of options. So yeah. decide what you want first and then talk price. Dont waste their time or else they will dismiss you as a tyre kicker. I knew what i wanted and said "im willing to sign a contract now" and gave them the figure i was willing to sign at. then the fun and games began with counter offers and stuff.
