  • Replacing bulb on vanity mirror light

    Hi
I noticed that the bulb on the driver's side vanity mirror is not working. How do you remove the cover to replace the globe? I tried inserting a small blade on the edge but was afraid it might break the plastic cover

You're almost there dude. I think there is a notch in the end, just pop it out with a small screw driver. The plastic in these cars is quite flexible and strong.

You don't pop the clear plastic off, you pop the whole light assembly out. It's held in with two metal spring leafs at each end. Slide it one way and prise it out at the other end. Be careful when unplugging it as it's a flat printed wire, not normal insulated cables.

Do you mean that it pops out of the lining itself

OK, I popped out the whole assembly and inspected the globe, seemed to be fine, but just in case I bought a new globe and replaced the old on. Still no light when I slide the mirror cover open. Any suggestions on what could be wrong with it?
Works fine on the passenger side

Sorry for late response, I notice you figured it out but yes, the whole assembly pops out of the lining (in case anyone stumbles across this thread later).

The flat ribbon cable to the light is extremely fragile so be careful with it.

The light is switched in 2 ways:
                1) When you slide the cover open
                2) The visor itself must be mostly open, if you fold it up or down fully the light is extinguished.

So there are two switches to inspect.

You could remove the visor itself and check with meter for the switching action. There are (I think) three wires that come out. If you want to know how to remove the visor, search for "homelink visor" as there were a lot of people swapping visors for the one with integrated garage door remote.
