Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

It doesnt like crawling about in peak traffic much compared to petrol engines.
Be thankful you didn't get a DSG, it would've driven you crazeh. I found learning to drive the TDI in a 'spritited' way was really easy compared to other petrol cars. I'm yet to master my 2.0TSI but had the TDI under wraps in less than a week.

I test drove DSG equipped Tdi but couldnt come to grips with them. Got too used to manual cars, i'd guess. I drive 100 km each day to and from work so the Tdi is great for fuel economy...just done over 350 km since I picked it up and the tank is still more than 3/4 full! Not driving it slowly either...I read that the turbo needs a good boot each day to free the turbine bearings so I take 3 or 4 gear up to 4000 rpm plus and the shove in the back certainly puts a smile on my face

It feels quite different to drive in low gear as it has such a low rev range so I am sometimes unsure of selecting 2 or 3 gear for best choice between rev range and correct torque curve without loading up the engine. Also it sometimes stutters a little bit when moving to neutral from gear. More practice is in order I think.
