Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Picked up Jetta 2.0 TDi today- some questions

    Hi everyone,
Picked up my Jetta 2.0 Tdi manual today as a replacement for my Bora 4-mo which had engine damage due to flood water on the roads.
Have to learn how to drive a diesel! The torque is incredible!

    Couple of questions.
    1. I cannot locate the rings for the cargo net on the L/R side of the boot although the ones near the sill is accessible. Are they hidden by the carpet or just not fitted in my 2007 model? Manual says they are there..

    2. I have standard 16" alloys but all the wheel nuts have a funny star-shaped slot. The car did not come with this tool. It is marked Volkswagon, so is it possible to get the key from a VW dealership?

Hi, I just had a look in my wife's Jetta and it doesn't have any tie down points on the floor either. Only has them on the beaver panel.
The star shaped slots you are talking about are only plastic covers. There should be a piece of wire bent into an L on one end and a ring on the other with your tool kit. Pull the covers off to find your wheel nuts. Hope this helps.

I wonder if they are hidden behind the carpet. I will give VW a call to find out as I really need to use a cargo net for my stuff
OK I will look for the bit of wire, I am sure I saw it on the foam bit on top of the spare wheel today

Please post your results from when you call Volkswagen RE the tie down points. I've been wanting to get a cargo net but as there isn't anywhere to tie it down closer to the rear seats (even though the manual clearly indicates they should be there).

Thanks for the good wishes...I hope sotoo. It was less than 12 months ago that my Peugeot 406 was destroyed by the hailstorm. Replaced with the bora and bingo...flood water!
Colour is White. Gave it a reasonably long drive yeetrday and it goes vey well. I dont think I will win any standing start races but once it gets going the turbo gives you a mighty shove for overtaking!

Tuned as in ECU re-flash etc? or just a good thorough service. Am a newbie where diesels are concerned.

ECU re-flash. I went through Oettinger and it made the car perfect... I still miss it today!

The torque is amazing! I've actually towed other cars with ease once getting it tuned.

Even in stock form, I have found the torque to be pretty good, no need to rev it out at all compared to petrol engines. I will have to check out the cost of a re-flash. Will I need a cold air intake or are they a waste of money?

You've already got a cold air intake (from factory) and the stock air flows very well. You'd only need to consider it if you put a bigger turbo on or changed the intercooler.

Note: Do not use a KN style oiled filter, they will kill your MAF sensor very quickly.

Good to know that stock cold air intake is already pretty good. I will learn how to drive the T-diesel first before going for a flash upgrade. Standard 103kw might be enough for me. On the freeway, overtaking is brisk and purposeful and the economy is awesome!
It doesnt like crawling about in peak traffic much compared to petrol engines.
