  • Yet another servicing thread

Before anyone asks... Yes I searched high and low and could only find similar but not the exact info I am after.

Our 06 FSI Jetta is comming up for its 120k service. It does have DSG so I have been told it will cost a bit more. I have been quoted $2500 from VA Garage here on the coast.. It seems quite excessive however I am always happy with the work there. What are your opinions for that price. I have had other quotes which are much less but one thing I have learnt is that you always get what you pay for.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a details what they will do?
The timing belt with water pump and DSG service could be close to $2,000 if everything else would need doing. Well, that's the max. the worst case scenario what I would charge.

    Get another quote.

As far as I was told it was just the standard 120k service + DSG - Nothing else needs to be done.

In that case, it is the one very expensive workshop. I suggest that you check the owner's manual or contact VW Australia for up to date servicing schedule.

from the Bentley Publishing service reference (https://wiki.bentleypublishers.com/d...ance+Schedules) it seems EVERYTHING has to be done at 120K, so I'm not surprised it'll cost more, but $2500 for service a Jetta seems steep (from a purely general point of view as I have never paid for a Jetta service, but none of my scheduled Audi services were that expensive, only repairs)

Also I believe "you get what you pay for" only applies to certain shops (does NOT apply to Lane Toyota )

Get a list of what exactly they will do/replace for that schedule before you decide I reckon.

My Jetta is TDI, not TFSI, but since you're asking about a 120k service (i.e. excluding the timing belt / water pump replacement, which cost me $1350 in Sydney from memory), an indicative amount for a general service + DSG oil replacement for my TDI is $1200.

I'd expect that a general petrol model + DSG service would be similar in cost.

Looking at Car Servicing Cost & Price Guide - carservice.com.au the 8Yr/120k service includes belt +tensioner replacement but is otherwise a repeat of the 4Yr/60k service. What did you pay for your 4Yr service?

(that site suggests up to $1850 as a guide, but it states that doesn't include all parts)

I would ask for an itemised list of everything to be done. Not all dealers quote the same things to be done.
