MY08 GTI audio head unit upg: what does it mean?

First post here.

FYI, I owned a Jazz Blue MkIV GTI and loved it. Sold it nearly five years ago and am thinking (very seriously) of returning to the fold.

I noted elsewhere that the MY08 GTIs supposedly have an upgraded audio head unit:

"For MY08 both Golf GTI and R32 models have been upgraded to the large format multi-function display ‘plus’."

I take it that this means that in the MY08, the audio head unit will look the same as the unit with sat-nav -- it just won't have the satellite functions unless you pay the extra. Am I reading that correctly?

Does anybody have any sense for any other changes that come with this upgrade? Better sound? More power (in the stereo)? Subwoofer output? Any details at all (or even a model number for the new head unit)?

Hi Richard,

The upgrade mentioned is for the display between the speedo and tacho on the dash. The audio headunits are the same between MY07 and MY08 (I assume). The MFD Plus used to only be available on cars that had the factory satnav (which is part of the confusion I guess).

Does anybody know whether Oz-spec cars have the J525 digital sound control module fitted under the seat? Or are the speakers connected directly to the head unit?
