I was told that the price I would have paid for the replacement of the DSG mechatronic unit [which was covered by stat warranty] was $4500.
Mind you, it wasn't on print, just what the sales guy told me so not sure if it would be 100% accurate [might have jacked it up to make it seem like they did more for me etc]
Thx~~So that means I may have to spend $5000 if it is really the gear box
I'm no expert but from what I've research [after having the jerkiness problem] it could be clutch pack OR mechatronics. Don't know how much the clutch pack would be, sorry. Also depends on if you have the 6 spd wet clutch or newer 7 spd dry clutch.
Trust me when I say this; you don't want to have to fork out for a new DSG if you don't have to. It will cost you a fortune!
Take it into the dealer, and have it assessed. All the common faults are well-documented now. It's not worth taking a punt on.
Besides, there's no documented rebuild procedure. You can only replace the oil, the filter, the Mechatronics, and the clutch assembly.
if you went out on a limb and replaced the Mechatronics (At around $5,000), you'd have to get the dealer to do it, as it needs to be carried in a fashion that doesn't break the gearbox input speed sensor (if that happens, the whole transmission needs to be replaced), then there's the labour involved (around 3 hours, including calibration), and new oil and filter ($30 for the filter, and 5 litres of oil, at $50 per litre).
At a rough guess, depending on labour rates, are you really willing to gamble $6,000?
Thx for the input. That's what I wanna know ( just wanna prepare foe the worst). I mean I'm not saying there IS a gearbox problem right now and if so, I'll take it back to the dealer to get it fix rather than a machanic shop to do it for me. At least it is under warranty if u dealer is doing it for u
