Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • DSG Bang into 6th Gear

    Hi there,

This is my first post and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on a problem I have with my car. I have a Mark V R32 and there is a bang/thud when the car goes into 6th gear. The car has been at the dealers for about 5 weeks and they have changed the mechatronics, exhaust valves (???) and the diff!! The noise is still there and VW are struggling.

Has anyone else experienced this problem or have they heard about it. if so, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Also, what would be the best course of action if this keeps dragging on, I can wait forever.

    Thanks in advance.

haven't had experience with banging into 6th gear but my MkV Jetta used to have a harsh shift from 2nd to 3rd when throttle was about 50% (among other issues) .... had it reset, mechatronics replaced etc then finally had the gearbox replaced. They had the car for about 3 days whilst they ran diagnostics on the gearbox while in communication with Germany's Tech support people.
All you can do with VW is press them for an outcome without getting aggressive about it. They sound like they are working the issue but can understand 5 weeks is starting to wear thin. I would push them for a courtesy car (free of course) while you are without a car.

I obviously meant to say I can't wait. I do have a replacement vehicle but I don't want to be driving a Tiguan forever, I bought the r32 for a reason. The noise also happens on downshifts from 3-2-1 but the 6th gear bang is by far the worst. The dealers aren't the problem, they are willing to help but head office is making life very hard for them in that it takes them days to respond and provide advice. Does anyone have the contact details of someone I can e-mail/phone from head office?
