Plates on Jetta Front

Picked up my jetta yesterday...awesome car, they drilled the euro style plates straight through the chrome with no backing plate. I've noticed the R32 has a backing prior to putting the plate on....Just would like any replies to see if if they had a backing or not, before i rip into the dealer... Brochure shows NSW car with them on....thanks

From my understanding these were on earlier model year cars, golf, jetta etc, but have not been on the MY07 cars.

You can buy them either from the dealer or a site like OEM plus.

I take it you want your plate to be square on the backing plate, not curved to the profile of the car front?

oh its not for the straight reason, its that when i sell it in the next couple of years and put standard plates on it there will be dirty holes in the chrome....if they were on a backing plate they might not be too noticeable...i think i could be just a bit anal...

My 1mth old Jetta has the front plate drilled straight thru the chrome painted plastic front too.

My Euro plates are mounted in a plate holder which is then screwed straight onto the chrome grill.

(I supplied the plate holder)

My car is booked in on Friday for a couple of faults with a brand new car... The screw holding the number plate has now actually snapped from the tension and pulled out of the bumper.... I'm going to ask them to put on an R32 backer on it....Its the least they can do for me since the car came with a friggin dint in it on delivery.....I let you know what happens

Yer, the plates on my car were screwed straight onto the car.
I actually specified no backing plate and just the plates straight on.

Perhaps you could just ask them, instead of ripping into them, im sure they would oblige with some backing plates for yr new car.

How bad was the ding, r they fixing it - that sucks.

The ding was the size of a hailstone, located on the left rear guard near the wheel arch...After i picked it up on Friday night i showed it to them on Sat morn and they said it was fine and they would get the dint doctor to repair it...free of charge, as i gave them a list of things i wasn't happy about.

good to hear. still, kinda takes the fun out of picking up a "new" unblemished car..
