Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • HPA SHS coilovers? Will it fit R32 AND gti's?

As per title... Are these coilovers interchangeable between GTI's and R32's? Apparently according to the hpa website, it will? Both 2WD and AWD

HPA Motorsports Inc. - SHS Coilovers

I thought coilovers between the 2 are not interchangeable?

I know BILSTEIN PSS10's for the r32 and gti have different part numbers... Same with KW coilovers...

So is it just HPA that can interchange between the 2?

The rear suspension of the 4wd chassis is different to the 2wd.

coilover kits physically fit between awd and fwd mk5 models. Just some manufacturers use different spring rates due to the different weight/distribution. You could just check the application list and see if they list the same part number for the two different cars.

hence my question. my logic is, PHYSICALLY they WILL fit but SPRING RATES will be different? But according to the HPA website, these coilovers fit BOTH GTI AND the R32....if we go by your statement, then these technically should not fit the GTI (or vice versa the R32)?

            confused...

The part number is the same for both the GTI and R32 which is confusing me....

Wouldn't a phone call to City Performance or an email to HPA answer your question better/quicker than asking it here?

if that were the case then I would have already done it by now.
Different people are saying different things, which is why I wanted clarification from those who know their suspension or have had experience with this coilover
