  • Sunroof Rattle/Squeak

    Hey all,

Those of you who have a sunroof are probably familiar with the rattle/squeak that occurs when the glass is tilted (those that don't, I envy you).

Has anyone had this fixed? I mean actually fixed. Some dealers have put felt strips put on the deflector (not sure hot it would look) and some apply a lubricant which ismessy and comes back after a while (my windscreen looked like it had been sprayed with cooking spray as it ran whenever it rained).

Has VW identified the problem and got a permanate fix for it?

    Hi Goneincognito,

I slide my sunroof back more often than I tilt it but I can't really say I've ever experienced any squeaking. I occasionally get an annoying chatter that appears to come from the wind deflector with the roof slid back but it's damned difficult to identify the source whilst driving!

How old is the car? Has this occurred since new or did it start when you got some k's up?

    Cheers

It's a MY07 that I've had since November and it started to do it after a couple of months. The dealer knows it does it but don't know what to do to fix it (they were responsible for the lube all over the windscreen) and have suggested I do some research and get back to them.. WTF!?!?!

It's only when it's fully tilted. I can have it to the position where it tilts up twice and it's ok. After that it dose it.

There are threads all over the place about it but none have what I'm after so I thought I'd ask here. If I can find a dealer that knows what to do then I can tell my dealer to speak with them (or just go there and get them to fix it).

It's not helpful to your problem and no doubt not what you need to hear but I've not experienced any of the problems with my sunroof that you described having with yours. I wonder what is causing it?

Well..... I've had this annoying issue since picking up by car some 3 months back, and I've played and played and lubricated what I thought was everything which could be coming into contact with anything up there.

Then I stumbled across this thread and I was inspired to give it once last look. To date I'd have to leave the roof tilted two positions back from full to shut it up. Well, I just went out and noticed that there are four small ribbed plastic spacers stuck to the underside of the sliding roof. Before I touched anything, I could simply press on the front edge of the roof at full tilt and it would sound as though crickets were having an orgy inside my roof.

So I ran some dry lube (the stuff they lube door runners with) onto the four little plastic grometty things and.......... eerie silence. Couldn't make it peep anymore. Haven't driven it yet but this was definately where the sound was coming from as I been looking at this for ages.

Don't know how long this will last but if it doesn't, I'd replace them with something of a different material.

          Hope this helps.
