Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Ok so I need your help... choices choices...

Ok so its now only a few days until I pick up my new baby (GTI MKV in Candy White), but I need your help...

Below is the link to a pic of the rims I have decided on... BBS CH but I can't decide on the size...

    http://www.spinnerwheels.com.au/bbswheels1.htm

Therefore I need your help... I'm getting Eibach (did I spell it right?) suspension and Hancook Ventus K107 tyres, but should I get 18" or 19"??

    The price difference is minimal.

The thing that worries me is:
    (a) Will the ride be too hard?
    (b) Will the rims look too big on the car?

    What are your thoughts?

Personally I think the CH always looks small (I much prefer the look of the RG or the LM) but that's my thing .

If you are going to lower and by extension stiffen the suspension, you should not go too big on the wheels.

Otherwise you are going to end up with no suspension travel, AND no flex in the sidewalls....

    Not a great combination.

I have the 18 inch CH's on mine. Originally I had 17s and they looked like
16s! I dont think that I would go 19s as the ride would be affected. I also plan on lowering mu car and I have heard of inner guard fowling with the 19s.
I hope that the delivery of your goes well, it's an exciting time!!! Good luck,
        Andrew

19's - daily use - never bent one (Oettinger / ronal rims) - comfy, better steering response, look great.

18"s are good but 19"s are better (downside is tyre price!)

I'd vote for 18" cos' even that I assume you'd be running on 40 profile tyres, with Eibach and 19" it'd be a hard ride on Aussie roads...
