Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Golf GTI DSG for Hire?

    Heya Folk,

I'm looking at purchasing a Golf GTI DSG, but I'm being pretty fussy if I'm gonna plonk down that much money.

Does anyone know where I can hire one for the weekend? I've already tried all the mainstream car rental places (Europcar doesn't have the 2.0T Audio A3 unfortunately) and a few of the sports car places... all to no avail.

    TIA,

    Dom.

Welcome to the forum Lifers. Try the dealer. If they want to sell a GTi then they should gladly loan you one. I had a demo one down in Hobart for 3 weekends while I waited for my ordered one. Mind you, that was a 5 1/2 month wait...
Hope you enjoy the forum Dom.
    Cheers, Andrew

Hi there... You wont be able to get it in gold... the gold version was the farenheit model only available in Germany.. only 200 were made...

          Type, I meant Golf.
Hmm, no Golf for hire - very frustrating.

What's the wait time for a new one like atm? I've been keeping an eye on the second hand ones on carpoint.com.au and they're selling them at RRP for a new one.

heres a idea,go to a beemer dealer or merc, get a test drive by yourself,go straight to a vdub dealer, pretend its your car!!! and hey presto they will bend over to give you a r32 for the weekend!!! ....

my mate with his TT went to porsche, and they gave him a 2001 911 for 2 days to drive and when he was thinking of upgrading ,gave him a new turbo cayenne for the weekend.

mere plebs like us dont get these oportunitys!!! hahahaha

How do you get the BMW guys to give you a test drive by yourself?

I assume you take your Toyota to Volvo, the Volvo loaner to BMW, the BMW to VW....?

heh, anyway I answered my question on the wait, looks like most people are waiting for 6 months.

Are you in Sydney? Go to Parramatta, where BMW and VW are 100m from eachother and they do let you take the BMW on your own - no dealer.

When I was young I took my mother's brand new Capri (English ... not Jap) to a Jaguar dealership and it was no trouble to convince them that I was looking for more power , like ... oh ... that E-type for instance.

My brothers and I had a great afternoon cruising in a brand new E-type. (Yes ... yes ... showing my age, but I don't care. It was loads of fun and the same thing applies when it comes to conning a good ride out of a dealership.)
