  • Wheel changeover questions

Hey folks, picking up my Jetta Turbo in the next several days and just wanted to get run some questions by my fellow knowledgeable VW owners.

I'm guna change the standard rims, but keeping the rubber.
Now this may have been mentioned before, but has anyone here sold their rims back to the dealership ... or is private sale a better option.

The rims are probably guna be rolled on for about 10km I'm planning on picking up the car and then getting the new set put on.

They're 17x7" - The standard wheel design is the Classixs wheels.

Sorry i don't have any other photos, i just had a look around the VW website.
So far all the promo pics on the Jetta show the 18" Charleston -
I can give you a pretty vague description if it helps .. umm , it has 14 spokes.
      Anyone here with a pic?

Still appreciate any feedback floating around if anyone has sold their oem wheels back to the dealership ..

Don't bother with the dealership. They won't be interested unless they are taking you over a barrel. They wouldn't give you anything like what they are worth.

Offer them up on here, vwvortex, ebay etc for a better result.

acdcfan I've found the wheels, they're on the Golf GT based on this review.
The CarAdvice team were at Mt Cotton driver training centre yesterday at the launch of the new Golf GT, so before we get our "first steer" article up and going, lets have a closer look at the technical details of the new Golf GT.

Ie- 17-inch alloy wheels in the “Classixs” design with 225/45 R17 tyres
You can see the basic design. Let me know what you think.

h100vw - Thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated. You wouldn't happen to know what the approximate worth of the wheels are..?
I had a quick look on ebay, couldnt' find any listed (vw classixs wheels/rims)

acdcfan - G'day . . Are you still interested in them if you had to wait several weeks ...
Just had a chat to my wheel guy - he is a trusted friend and I respect his car wisdom. . He's recommended I drive the car for several weeks to make sure there are no niggly issues (whatever they may be) before starting with the wheels.
I can't foresee the future, but I can assure you the wheels will be in as new condition. I'll take photos , etc etc prior to shipment.

                Assuming you're still interested
I'll guess you're up in Perth ... shipping I can help through a mate of mine working in Northline freight. Though he said it would be cheaper if you picked it up from their depot in Perth. If you're interested later, I'll get dimensions for the boxes, and CC you from my work , to his work , to your email address regarding costs, etc etc.

I have no problems in waiting for them. I can pick'em up from Nothline transport. Maybe I can organize something as well.
If you can please advise freight cost to be sent via northline, I need to factor that in as well

acdcfan - G'day g'day, apologies for the delay in getting back to ya. Spoke to my mate - roughly $100 bucks he reckons, but this was over the phone and he didn't have his work calculator on him. But don't quote him on that.
If you wanted to organise the transport yourself, more than happy to have the wheels sent out to you that way as well.
I actually know another good mate who works for Hellmann logistics - though I know they deal with larger goods transport - not one off shipping. Still worth asking I guess.
And no - Funnily enough, i don't work anywhere remotely near or use a transport company on a regular basis.

Cut a long story short , picked up my luvly graphite blue Jetta today - wheels are all shiny and sparkly in their “Classixs” glory.
There was a slight drama- but not relevant to the sale. Though nearly ruined my whole carefully planned day of getting the windows tinted etc etc. All sorted though, and looking very stealthy. Yay.

So what im going to do is -
Have the wheels up for sale in the parts/sale section - have a min reserve and close the sale several days after.
                    Now - feedback appreciated here-
**I'm thinking, I'll post the sale thread - say sometime next week - once i have clearer timeline regarding the wheels -
Unless you wana get the ball rolling now.

I'm happy to take pics of the wheel and email it to ya - if you wana pm me yr email address.
I'm not too aufaye with the whole uploading of images onto the board. .unless someone can help out with instructions. Bit of a nuff nuff with the whole www.

No worries about 100-150 buck for transport. If you intend to put them up for sale and give every body a chance it is fine by me, let me know when you've done it .
What was a drama with you new car?

                        Nothing major -

Fuel tank was only 1/2 full - I didn't have time to go off with the salesperson and get the tank filled - so next time I'll drive over with an empty tank and get em to fill it up.
Radio wasn't programmed - no biggie , took em 5 mins to do with the laptop.
I really just wanted a couple of stations anyway.
The right wheel, had some scratches - they changed this over from another car (new car) and glad to say they're all immaculate now.

The major drama was - several years ago when i bought my previous car, it rained on the day. Last friday. .. rained again . . .aaargh. !!
