Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • RECALL/ISSUE V6 Passat & MkV R32 (non urgent)

Had the oil changed in my 2007 V6 Passat today as I wasn't happy with what it had. I replaced the original Castrol SLX 05W-30 with Castrol Edge 0W-40. A much better oil which provides higher protection.

I also put the car in for a metallic groan sound in the front end when slowly driving into car parking spots. The VW Service Manger knew about this. It appears to only affect V6 Passats and Mk V R32s (not sure of the build dates), as they share the same engine layout and brake system. The Service Manger said that the bolts on the brake callipers were put in wrong and that a 'fix kit' is available. This is what is causing the groan. They kit wasn't available during this service but will be soon. In the interim the fault will not affect anything, particularly breaking.

    Thought you'd like to know.

Yep, I had a similar issue's with my breaks. Like truck break squill at very low seeds when parking or turning. Yes Barloworld in NSW claim that a kit needed to be installed. All ok now.

Cool as i have the same noise and was just going to wait till my 15k service which now sounds wise.

R32 is here and sounds awesome, loving the throttle blips on the down changes.
