Yeah have looked there - but it does not seem particularly relevant to the prices that are advertised for my model, nor the figure the dealer is giving for a trade in either.
On the other hand the dealer is trying to tell me that last years model Tig sells for new model price secondhand as everyone wants them. They tend to have an argument to suit every cause of their own.
The car is still in very good condition, and there are not many DSG models for sale - plenty of manuals !
I was thinking a selling price of around 22K would be reasonable based on what else is advertised. I will be looking for a quick sale, and thought some members may have sold recently and have a good idea of what is realistic - advertised prices for both new and secondhand cars dont mean great deal.
No offence taken - that was the purpose of the thread - to get ideas
As for carsales, I'm not looking at sales outside of Vic - cheapest for same model and spec regardless of klm's was around low to mid 21's when I looked - dealers are trying to sell similar klm cars in the same as ours(good) or worse condition for high 20's, hence thinking of starting around 5-6K below that.
I think $22K sounds fair considering it has full service history and under 100k on the clock. According to Carsales valuations that's close to the high end of the average selling price for a private sale on this model - Car Valuations - Used Car Values - carsales.com.au

I would have thought so - looking for a quick sale, so will probably list for the top redbook price of $21800 and go from there.

well in Vic there is one with 85k listed for $18,500... and another for 23,990..... that's 5,500 difference for what are on the surface the same car (aside from 05 v 07)... a car listed for 23,990 will likely NOT sell for that. the 18,500 on the other hand will prob sell rather quickly and for close to list price.
my car was listed for 35k and i got it for 31k (2 years ago)
all the same i think around 20ish is what you will get.
good luck!

Yes your right there are 2 at 18.5K - one is a 05 with 85K, the other is a MY06 (even though its advertised as MY07) with 118K on the clock, no RWC, and a few weeks of rego left .....
hi all, im in a similar predicament as the OP, so i thought id seek some advice here
i've got a 2005 Golf V 2.0 TDI Comfortline.
- DSG
- 118K on the odometer
- genuine VW 18" wheels
- pedders sport springs
- rest is stock
i've had the major service done at 90K (by ultra-tune) with timing belt changed and the other usual items. serviced by VW for the 3 years it was under warranty, since then ive serviced it every 5k with genuine VW parts.
i was hoping to get about $18-19K for it - does this sound fair? thinking of putting it on carsales for $19.5K!

We have been to several VW dealers over the last few weeks and have been offered pretty low trade in values, which is to be expected. Allthough the trade in prices have varied the one thing all dealers have had in common, was telling us the 2.0 DSG's are in high demand and to sell privately for low twenties shouldnt be difficult.
So it's going on carsales now and we will see what happens.
Are we allowed to link to a carsales ad in the for sale section of the forum ?
Does yours have leather and a sunroof? I tend to agree with the other posts 22k is a bit steep, im in the process of trying to convince mum to get a mkv 2.0tdi dsg. We spotted a MY08 with 70k in sydney for 20k but it didnt have leather or a roof. Ive noticed the price range for them for less then 100k seems to start at around 15-16k for the 05 models and then around 17-18k for the 06 models. This is based on a 2.0tdi dsg. But its your car though, sell it at what ever you think its worth.

I think low twenties is believable. When I was enquiring to buy a 2.0 DSG a while ago not many were sticking around for sale for long, should be pretty easy to sell.
I paid $23k in August last year for a low mileage, one owner, tdi sportline with full service history. A neat car, I wouldn't have paid that for some that I viewed.
i think to sell a car it needs to priced according to the market.
i just sold my 1999 1.6 auto golf for 8k
i thought i would get around 7k for it based on my searching around 3-4 months ago. since then the availability of lowish kms good condition auto golfs in that year dropped to just 2 others. both had HEAPS more kms and were on carsales for 8k++ so i listed at 8900 thinking i would take 8. i got 8k after only 1 week.
price it against other similar cars in your area.
