  • Golf TDi DSG <> or = tiptronic

OK, so my old man is looking at getting a Golf TDi, but I'm confused as to what he is actually looking at. He's eyeing off 1.9TDi Golf auto's, which is where my question comes from: is the auto on them (2 actually, a 2006 and a 2008 ) a tiptronic single shaft auto or a DSG?? Redbook says DSG only for the TDi's, but i've seen (in particular the 1.9's) advertised as tiptronic. This says DSG only for diesels too, but wanting to confirm.
He's in Hobart, and I'm in Brisbane, so can't go look, and the sellers (private and dealer) don't seem to know.
    Thanks,
    Al..

      +1.

Some of the petrol models were offered with tiptronic.

I found conflicting info all over the online ads also when I was looking for a Golf, seems that most used car dealers don't know the difference.

I think Tiptronic is one marketing term for having the upshift and downshift slots on the gear selector, thus when quoted implies some sort of automatic transmission.

So in fact, both FSI (conventional) automatic models and GTI/TDI DSG models can claim to have Tiptronic transmission.
But only GTI and TDI models can also claim to have DSG.

That's probably what accounts for the inconsistencies in ads.

Wouldn't surprise me if someone advertises their R32 as having some paddleshift transmission.
