  • funny belt noise

Hay guy i drive a 2009 comfort line golf 2lt and it makes a noise for the timeing belt.

Now i have taken it to the dealer a few times and to get fixed and it comes back and its ok for a day or two but then it the same again.

what i need to know is this a normal thing as the dealer tells me when it cold they all do it.

If the noise is only there when cold it may well be a bearing (tensioner?) with too much play — comes back into tolerance when it warms up.

If so, you're looking at early failure — and no, they don't all do it.

Just make sure that noise is not coming from a pulley sitting on generator shaft - I had that noise for long time and dealer could not find anything. The bad thing happened after I found that pulley was actually sliding and touching generator case. I could not find any ratchet to fix it, and when I decided to show it to the dealer suddenly it completely went off the shaft in the morning, so the car had to be towed..
