  • Estimated MK5 GTI private sale price.

    Hi,

    I have a Dec 2008 (MY09 model) Golf GTI.

Just wondering what I could consider a sensible private sale value?

It has 19,800km on the clock, DSG, 5 door, leather seats, sunroof and Ipod adaptor, in black metallic paint, with window tinting. No other options.

Redbook says $29,500 - $33,000 for private sale, but they say 45,000 - 70,000km, so if mine is less, should I expect more than $33,000 or is that wishful thinking? I have no idea if redbook is accurate, so am seeking some guidance from those who have sold similar vehicles.

    Thanks!!

Forget redbook. If that was my car, I would not be selling it unless I was in the market for a Golf R. If I was looking to buy a mk V GTI, I would expect to pay around $35K for a similar spec. Out of curiosity, why are you selling it?

Thanks Brimway. Really appreciate that, sounds like a reasonable result.

Lease runs out later this year. Am figuring out whether or not to keep, or trade in for either a Tiguan, a Mk6 GTI or maybe even an R.

I bought it on a novated lease with decent corporate discount, no GST, so if I can get 35k for it a refresh won't cost too much - perhaps better not much more expensive than holding onto it.....

IMO The only worthy replacement for your MKV GTI is the Golf R. The new MkVI GTI is no longer as entertaining to drive as VW have refined it a tad too much.
It is at least another $20-30K changeover to get into an R with some options if do trade in. Test drive both the MkVI GTI and R to know what I am talking about.

If you have only done 20,000kms, I'd be inclined to keep it. Buy extended warranty for about $1400 so that you can keep it for another 3 more years.

i bought my car in jan for just over 30k leather being the only real option it was an aug 2008 so with low km's and some extra options you should be able to get 33-35 but having just sold another car you'll only ever get what someone else is prepared to pay sadly.

It's been my experience that a vehicle with lower kms won't necessarily attract a price premium, but you will probably be able to sell it faster.

I'd say advertise it for $35,750, with the assumption that you'll probably get $33,500 for it - it all comes down to how much of a rush you are to sell.

As a comparison, Ian (Rennenhaus) just sold his 2010 Mk6 GTI for $35k! No leather or DSG though...

Id' say mine also cost this much. 2008 6spd manual, sunroof, leather, candy white with 27,000km on the clock.. dealer had $36k on it. I'd say with the trade in haggling I did.. I paid around 33k for it.
