    Volkswagen R32 MKV 3.2 > Search > 3C0035456C > ES#489489 Amplifier - 3C0035456C

I've ordered one already. Shipping is a killer but it's still worth it!

This will be replacing the factory AMP in my R32 and will go nicely with the RNS510 when that arrives.

Check this thread for photos etc

    Oh and Hi BTW!

What's the advantage of this over the stock amp?

I've been considering upgrading the speakers in my GTI but it will cost a fortune when the stock equipment seems pretty good anyway.

      Good question!

I'm not real sure to be honest.

I know it's the Dynaudio Amp used in the B6 Passats, from reports on other forums it transforms the audio..

For $11USD it's worth a shot. I know shipping is expensive but ended up costing me $94 shipped. So we will see, it's not too much money to gamble! Done worse at the casino!

Hey WasteGate, note that this is not the Dynaudio amp, but simply the closest you'll get. And for US$11 (reduced from $96) instead of the US$899 they claim the Dynaudio amp is, it's an absolute bargain!

It's just like having a separate "preamp/processor" and "amplifier" in a home theater or home stereo. There is a lot more space in a separate enclosure for more parts and higher end parts to provide clean, stable, power. Also, separating the processing and amplification stages allows for reduction in inteference, especially since their power supplies are separate since they're now in separate boxes.

In a home situation (less so in a car, unless you take your amp and speakers from car to car) it also has the added advantage that you can invest more into higher quality amps, and not have to worry about simply throwing them out with the processor each time you upgrade your receiver so you have access to the latest sound codecs or HDMI ports etc.

Cheers for clearing that up! Hopefully it is worth the dollars! lol

With a review like that guy gave it, even if the shipping did cost you $80, I don't see how it couldn't be worth it

Sorry, I'm confused. This 'Dynaudio' amp appears to pretty be the same as the Standard VW Amp in my GTI, visually. ie no bigger and not two seperate units (processor and amp)

Is it just a better quality version of the same thing and will it give a better sound quality through the stock speakers?

Here is the current amp in my R32

                Is yours the same?

From the other thread, and on ECS's site, it's quite different.

Yeah - if you guys already have outboard amps (rather than integrated into the headunit), then I'm not really sure that you could say for certain that this upgrade is worth it. Replacing the amps in your headunit with an outboard = yes, replacing an existing outboard with another = ?

Agreed - and for the price you paid I doubt there would be a difference. You don't get a lot of amp for $11.

Most factory audios system are pretty poor compared to the aftermarket stuff out there - I don't care if its a BOSE, Dynaudio or Harmon Karden. I've heard premium sound systems in half a million dollar cars that pale in comparision to a good aftermarket system.

Thanks poyta and Corey. That was the type of answer I needed.

I was considering replaceing the stock speakers with JL splits and 2 ways. I really think the stock stuff is pretty good, but from what you've said poyta, you think it would be a big difference? And if I upgrade speakers, should I do the amp as well?

Are at all inclined to add a powered subwoofer?
If so, then redirecting the bass from the other speakers (best done actively but even passive post-head unit helps) to the sub makes a massive difference as removing the bass load will greatly improved the head unit's amp headroom.

Plus you reduce the vibration issues with the door panels, fittings etc and don't have the resonance tuning issues of using the doors as bass enclosures (which aren't sealed effectively anyway).

You'd probably be surprised at how clean and detailed the standard drivers are when they're not asked to reproduce frequencies lower than 90Hz to any great level (since brickwall filters are pretty rare).

You're only as good as your weakest link...

Having said that, you need to start somewhere!
To most people's "untrained ears", there are larger "differences" (note, I don't say improvements! lol) between different speakers than there are amplifiers.

But try and be "balanced" in your upgrades. Don't go spending $5k on speakers and leave your stock amp... spend $3.5k on speakers and $1.5k on an amp etc*

*I'm just pulling these numbers off my head.... personally I wouldn't bother... it's a car, it'll always suck for music. I paid for the Dynaudio upgrade in my Golf R because it's of a sufficient level that I will listen to music via it whereas I wouldn't use the stock stereo (I'd use IEM's which is naughty!). I was happy to pay the $1k diff in the R for the Dynaudio as it is cheaper than anything you could achieve for that cash aftermarket, especially when taking installation into account. If you bought an aftermarket Dynaudio system, it'd be WAY better than the stock one, but it's still not going to stop the road noise, or the exhaust, or the wind, or the other cars, or make your car a small cathedral with nice acoustics etc.

Save your money and buy some real audio nirvana instead
