  • Headlight Washer Jet Installation GTI Mk5

Guys/Gals, just wondering if anyone has gone down the upgrade road & installed roadlegal Xenon Lights & Headlight washers? I bought a GTI at a stretch without the option & now have Xenon projector lights with auto levelling but need to install the headlight washer's to make it road worthy. My local VW Dealership wants nothing to do with me, they tried getting info out of VW Australia over last 7 months without success saying as my vehicle VIN doesn't have this as an option they can't source parts..... It's frustrating to see VW advertise 'Buy Genuine' but wont come to the party with the required help/support. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Nath

Where did you source the xenon headlamps and autolevel parts?

I'm asking in case you could get the bumper parts from that same source. Unless you did source all of this from VWA and they supplied everything but this.

There are numerous sources including dealers on eBay, forums and online shops, so you should find a dealer contact in the UK or Germany through the forum.

If I find one I'll post it.

Having said all of this, there are many forum people who have the Hella 'xenon look' headlamps which look identical to the xenon ones, but with an aftermarket xenon kit added. I've not seen any of these with the OEM washers added. I don't know of anyone who had a problem of not having the washers.

Check with Maverick if he's on this forum, since he's a VW parts person.

sourcing headlight & leveling kits for GTI Mk5

Hi Bizi & others who are interested. I sourced my parts here:

TM TUNING - your connection for European aftermarket and OEM VW and Audi parts

but they only sell Mk4 Washer kits & they have no intentions at this stage of offering Mk5 washer kits & wont/cant advise anywhere that will. I will keep searching. But if anyone can help me out, would be greatly appreciated. Nath

You could try getting a smash repairer to order and fit them on your behalf. I am sure they would be able to source the parts - if someone with Xenons has bingle, they will need replacement parts.

I'm just curious as to why it is necessary (legally) to have headlight washers with Xenon's and not Halogen's?

Doink, it is to do with the brightness/strength of the light displacement/output & if you are driving at night all the bugs go onto the headlights making the beam of light displaced causing dazzling to oncoming drivers so u need to keep the headlights clear of bugs hence the jetwashers, same thing with autolevelling, if u get yer boot full of gear & yer fat mother-in-law in the back seat & the back of the car is weighed down means the front of car raises which means the light beam faces up more direct into oncoming drivers hence the autolevelling kicks in & lowers the beam of light down. These are all my conspiracy theories & would need to be confirmed by someone in the know. Nath

                Nath,
The post/thread I recalled is this one on OzAudi (someone there sourced a LOT of accessories at big savings from Befast, Nthn Ireland, from this large dealer).

The thread has full contact info and websites. The poster there found them via eBay but put through the order over the phone, direct, not through eBay.

I'm not saying you will get the parts, but it is worth a try!
Based on my experiences in Ireland (people shopping cross-border for big currency-related savings), I think they'd sell some stuff to people in the Irish Republic, too, at big savings, so they are used to 'international' orders!

Thread on OzAudi: An UK Audi dealer on Ebay - most helpful and best of all sends to Oz
eBay Australia Shop - Audi: Accessories, Accessory, Parts

(this might be useful for Jetta and non-GTI Golf owners seeking GTI pedals etc, since we'd be using RHD versions of pedals, headlights etc like in UK)
