  • stalled Golf GT TDI MKV

    Hi Guys,

just checking to see if anybody has stalled their Golf GT TDI...

mine stalled yesterday, while reversing. able to start after several attampts.

failed to start this morning, but after 2 attempts, it started again. decided then that it needs servicing, so was determined to drop it off, where it normally gets serviced before going to work.

ran smoothly on F6 (towards wollongong, coming from sydney), up until mount ousley, just before the first big hill (after bellambi creek), it stalled (computer reads: "engine fault, service"). Lucky to be on the left most lane, with four cars behind me, and break down lane 20 or so metres away, i surprisingly managed to maneuver the car and be on the safe spot. shocked as hell.

vw roadside assist (via NRMA) came 3 hours later.

car arrived at VW service centre at around noon, and at 5pm, it hasn't been looked at.

    no car replacement was given.

Any advice is most welcome (at any of the issues that relates to your experience as above). Still shocked to what had happened.

    Thanks.

PS. tried to look for any related thread but seems none.

It could be another injector(s) failure. Check the Passat and Diesel section.

still no news from VW service, and apparently all the're loaner cars are booked out for two weeks.

does my standard new car warranty cover a rental replacement?

Great another GT with injector problems!!! Funny that you were still able to start her again though, from what I heard about this problem the injectors short out and once this happens thats it - it wont run again. Just waiting for mine to go bang!

It probably is the insulation in the failing injector having just enough resistance to not break down when the engine cooled and then permanently shorting (for the high voltage involved) on the next run once it has heated/vibrated enough.

note that i travelled about 50kms on monday before it finally gave up... wishing now that i didn't get her to start!

VW service told me this case is quite uncommon, with only 3 reported cases that they have fixed. well, you be the judge. so far, i've read 3 cases in this forum. that's a total of six! if 120 of these cars (with 125 kw engine, for both passat and GTs) are sold, that's 5%. It is very high for me, who knows the real number. And by the way, the reported case was only around late 2009. more 3 year warranties are coming up very soon!
