  • GTI Euro Sport Exhaust

    Hi All,
I posted this in the ebay section but didn't have any luck, so thought I might try here instead...

    Found this exhaust for sale:
VW Golf GTI MK5 MKV Performance Exhaust - A3 - Adelaide (eBay item 170592173435 end time 28-Jan-11 17:23:49 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats

Did a bit of an online search but found very little info on it. The company website is very low on details also. Any helpful info/opinion on it would be much appreciated!

you will still need a downpipe with a replacement high flow cat if you want to run stg 2, as its only a cat back.. the details in the ad are incorrect. if you want more noise this would be ideal, but thats about it. maybe a 1-2hp improvement.

Certainly at it's starting price it's awesome buying! Found it pretty popular on one of the volvo sites, and it would appear it's a little on the louder side of things, but also found this interesting comparison between several euro exhausts on a NA Mk4 VR6, showing there's not a lot of difference in the better known brands, which is hardly new information. A turbo would make the differences larger, but again, I reckon there's not that much in it, certainly in cat backs as isaw points out.

Thanks guys, helpful info. The most the exhaust will see is a stage 1 tune with the BMC CDA, but yes I appreciate gains will be limited.

Greg, you hit the nail on the head. It's just a really good price! The review was interesting. I do quite a bit of country driving (well, from the city to the surf) so drone is the last thing I want. Noise does concern me - looking at the system, only 1 muffler along with 2.5 inch piping suggests some noise.

The only other thing the concerns me is that on the Euro Sport website they mention installation requires the stock exhaust to be cut in order to install (it even lists a hacksaw as one of the required tools ). I'd really like to keep the stock exhaust in tact.

It would be real simple to get an exhaust shop to make it clamp up to the stock join, and given the overall cost if it goes cheaply on fleabay, it would be sub $100 to add a decent straight through resonator if it does indeed drone. A catback is going to cost at least $500 up, so you're well within the realms of sensible buying, especially in the costly stainless steel. Unlike a lot of seemingly cheap SS exhausts, this one does indeed appear to be made in the USA ( probably mexico? ) but it sure beats Asia like a lot of them.
