  • GTI Side Skirts for MkV

    HI Guys,

Could anyone tell me where I maybe able to find the GTI side skirts for my MkV, preferably in Melbourne? Out of curiosity can a GTI front bumper fit a MkV?

    Most parts AFAIK are interchangeable.
Best to check your local VW dealership spare parts department. Some of them are quite nice and may sell parts to you for close to the trade price.

Best price I've seen is direct from the dealer - they're cheap. Left hand one is $135 and the right is $148 ( don't ask me why ) but you'll need to buy these plastic caps that slot into the chassis that provide you with a mouting point to screw the skirts into ( I think there's four from memory ) and these all up cost another $30 - $40. Dealer may try and tell you that you need a mounting plate but don't bother, becuase with the 6 screws holding it in place and the double sided tape that comes with them they are secure as.
PM if they give you trouble and I'll give you exact part numbers to order.

I wouldn't go through the dealer for the side skirts - oemplus.com is where I got my GLI side skirts.

Just make sure you select 3/5 door variants, as the length is obviously different.

Are you serious? They're $225US and you need to pay $973.66US for shipping? How is that better than the $300AU the dealer wants?

Thanks guys. OemPlus.com looked impressive with its stock, but the postage is a killer!!

Poyda, have you also installed the GTI front bumper skirt? Is that a simple install, or does the skirt require modification on a stock MkV?

Not sure what Mk5 model you have but fitting a GTI front on a standard Mk5 model is a bit harder as you need the whole front bar, grille and spotlights. It can get pretty expensive. I wouldn't get this from a dealer. My GT has essentially got the a GTI front bar expect the front grille doesn't have the red stripe, its got slotted grillles instead of the honey comb and its missing that tiny little lip at the bottom of the bumper. I added that little lip to mine. Surprisingly for such a tiny little part that most people dont even notice its expensive at about $260 . It required a bit of cutting of my original bar to fit but not really difficult.

This is a photo of my standard front bar missing the small GTi lip

And this is after with the lip fitted.

                  Hi Poyda,

Thanks for the reply. Does that front skirting go around the entire bottom of the bumper? My MkV, is a stock Sportline, with the normal grill (see pics, although not my car its the same model, colour etc)

I didn't realize the GTI front would be that much work. I might look at adding a front skirting, and perhaps updating the grill.

If I add the skirting along the side, I think I will need to add something at the front. The back should be fine. What do you think?

No that lip attaches to the bottom skirt. The botton skirt wraps all the way around, then this skirt attaches to the front bar. If you've got a sportsline then it will be expensive to add a full GTi front - you'd be better off just adding an aftermarket front lip like this -

Golf 5/Rabbit Levanto front bumper spoiler

Look on this TM Tuning website for other examples and occcasionally I've seen some on Ebay. Honestly I wouldn't bother though because the GTi side skirts dont actually go lower that the door sills anyway, they simply sit a bit wider and give a more aggressive look so it won't look out of place with a standand front bar or rear bumper. Its not like they will sit lower than the front bar.

Thanks Poyta. I naturally assumed the side skirts would be lower than the door sills, hence why I was looking at a front skirting so they wouldn't look out of place.

Although, I do like that bumper spoiler you provided.
