Recently i have been getting flashed quite often by other drivers thinking i have my hi beams on when it is on the normal setting. Are Volkswagen factory Xenon's that much brighter than other makes??? or could it be that the self levelling mechanism isn't really doing it's job properly. Are other owners of Golfs/Jetta's with these headlights finding this as well?

I hope not... I've ordered the bi-xenon lights too and I'm picking mine up in the next few weeks... I've heard they're really bright though...

Would it still be funny if another VW with Bi-Xenons was heading towards you, blinding you back, affecting your night vision and reducing your ability to drive safely?
        Thought not.

I know you were being a bit tongue in cheek but you've struck upon a serious issue here. If there are other drivers on the roads......there are. And if they have the right to drive safely......they do. Then how bright is too bright?
Who determines how bright headlights are allowed to be?

Thoughts from my learned VW driving brothers?

The pogs have a manual adjusting dial for the height, which I have turned down 2 notches. May-be the answer.

              Read this thread...
Hi all, I've only owned my GTI for about 6 weeks or so (and loving it of course), but thought I would check with other people with the Bi-Xenons; Do you get flashed by on coming traffic at night. I've only driven at night a few times so far but each time I go out I get flashed by people who...

I was getting flashed a bit too (Jetta) but checked the lights and they are fine. It mostly happens when the other car is below yours (i.e. crest of a hill) due to the very sharp cutoff of the Xenons, also when you bounce over stuff it looks a bit like you're flashing your lights at them.

The last time it happened it was a Golf with halogens flashing at me (the goose had his foglights on too).

I'm not really a burn-their-eyballs-out-in-retaliation person so I just go 'meh' and hope they burst a vein when they drive towards the next Accord Euro.

Ive critisized xenon headlights many times and have been dazzled on countless occassions. especially on roads that arent level. Im also a hypocrite for ordering a car with them. So yeah. it still is funny to me. so if your point is that im a self absorbed non safety conscious moron. well u probly hit the nail on the head. im comfortable with that

But yes as per the thread topic. Xenon headlights do dazzle. and they are legal. at the end of the day if they cause someone to crash. well that person needs to go back and read their Learners permit handbook on what to do when a car with bright lights is coming the other way. im pretty sure its covered there.

I didn't mean to cause offence. I was just making a point and intentionally being a bit cheeky to get the conversation going. I'm sure that you're a good bloke, even if you admit to not being safety conscoius. What's with that?

Oh well, our beautiful VW's have lots of airbags.....not that I ever want to see mine......EVER!

                        Hi Tim,

It's a little off the post but I really don't know what to do when I get dazzled by lights....also it's been many, many, many years since I've gone near a Learner's permit handbook....do you know what to do when you get dazzled? (slowing down would be my first reaction).

Dunno about the learners book but Dad always taught me to look at the white line at the edge of the road instead of staring into the lights when I'm blinded.

I believe that what you've said is the conventional wisdom. It also makes a heap of sense if you think about it.
