  • 2L FSI Auto Sportline 60k Service - Dealer or Independent? (Melb)

I've been getting mums car serviced at Barloworld once a year (~15k) where she bought it to save the trip. It is now 4yrs old and out of warranty, having done about 55k the next service is due.

The last service at Barloworld they tried to charge about $100+ in extra rubbish like washer fluids and the usual upsale tactics not to mention tyres at greatly inflated prices! I'm not keen to go back to be honest but no idea who to take it to.

I tried getting a quote from Volkspower but the bloke who answered the phone was fairly vague and disinterested saying $300 minor, $700 major which would be more expensive than any service we had done by VW themselves?

(And I did search this sub forum but didn't find much to be honest. Plenty of R32 servicing, gee they're pricey...gonna have to sell the R before 60/100k hehe)

Those prices seem about right, 700 for a major service if it includes a timing belt change which your mums car will be due for soon due to age is extremely good. Call up vw and ask them for a price on a major including timing belt & it will be 1k+ .. i wouldnt disregard the independent guy just based on a phone call, he probably doesnt have a receptionist and a lot of mechanics ive came across dont have people skills.

Timing belt won't need changing till 90/100k or 6yrs. I wouldn't be getting it done at 60k unless you like wasting money.

Looks like this was the case or they're were just busy. I went down this morning and had a chat with Dean who come across like a good bloke. Gonna book it in as soon as they can do it. Will probably get them to look after my other 2 cars as well.

That was his exact words as well.

For ****s and giggles I got a quote from Barloworld. $865 for the service and another $1200 roughly for timing belt and water pump!

            6years/90k service sounds correct (15k/year).

I recommend James from Audvolks in Clayton.

I paid $235 for my 45k service. Reasonably priced, however IMO still too much for what is an oil change.

I'm not looking forward to the 60k service, DSG oil flush.

I get my car serviced at Audvolks and they have been gold to me! $235 covers 2 hours of labour + the oil. I pay $175 there because I bring in my own oil.

Seeing as you have Revo, I'm assuming you had your mods done by Audvolks too?

Do you have a Dump/Front pipe?

                I'm thinking of getting one.

the timing belt alone would cost more than $700, let alone the timing belt and a service

Yes all the revo work was done there. Ive got a full turbo back exhaust (TBE), but that wasnt done there. Definitely reduces restriction and adds a nice note.
