MKV R32 launch control

Hey guys,

So I just found out my car has launch control

Just wondering if anyone has had any bad experiences with it? I'd suspect that since VW put it in then it shouldn't have too much impact on the DSG?

Thoughts?

I've done a stupid amount of launches in mine. I have never had a problem with it, Some time's it bite's and launches hard sometime's quite mellow. Factory L/C is only set at 3100RPM which is quite low.

I'v seen alot of DSG flashes upping the RPM to 4200RPM+ and yet to hear of a problem even with them.

I found for best results, have the both pedals pushed flat to the floor. When you're ready to launch, release the brake as fast as you can and you should get a sharp bite of acceleration.

WTF is the point of LC in the new bmw M3's..? Do it more then 7 times and void your warranty!

The R35 GTR's warranty was voided if you used it more than 3 times.
I think they revised the RPM for the later models but it was a 20k clutch replacement for the earlier ones.

Keeping track of how many times wouldn't be hard as you have to do a certain few button presses which could be interpreted by the ECU to add 1 to a counter.

I love watching the faces of guys at the lights in fords and holdens laughing at you while you hold the revs up only to see their faces change to a frown in your rear view mirror. Having said this, I really can't bear to put my car through this on a regular basis it juts feels wrong to punish a car lilke that. My favourite thing in the R32 DSG is the kickback to 3rd at about 60-70km/h, it never fails to amaze me how efficiently it can deliver maximum torque to the road so quickly. I have even left motorbikes and v8's for dead from 60-100, they just dont expect I can get away from them so quickly. Everyone I have let drive my car comments on how responsive the throttle it is.

Sorry got side tracked. Biggest issues I have had with LC is user issues, me just getting a launch right in the first place. Its a timing thing. I have had instances where I have mucked it up, let go of the brake and it just sat there!

And that's about all LC is useful for...coz it serves not real function for the track or anywhere else. It's a feature I really never understood.

Not sure about leaving motorbikes for dead from a roll 60-100, but v8's a believe. Ive never had the opportunity to drive an r32, but my car is definitely the same against the fords/holdens/skylines.

I've tried it once and found when i released the brake there was a fairly long (1sec?) delay before it took off... is this normal?

In the Jetta, I find that it's like slowly releasing the clutch on a manual car...

Have you checked the UK forums? Just in case someone's done it.
I believe the current high performance 125TDI has it (Sammy had it on his Jetta 15TDI) so you may get lucky on the GT.

Serious? I would think an AWD drive car would have a bigger advantage from 0-100 rather than a roll as you don't loss traction whilst rolling from 60 or 80.

Cars should only be compared stock for stock and a stock R32 isn't the quickest car around... it's by far from being nimble also. I would class it more as a grand tourer
