Has anyone else had an issue with the doors on their MKV 'hitting' the latch?
These doors DO sag over time and others get bent, or leaned on, etc.
Anyway, I had an issue with the front passenger door hitting the latch (i.e. when the door is closing it hits the silver latch on the B pillar and pushes 'up' a bit). I've looked and looked and was told that the hinges on the MKV are almost completely unadjustable. They have a *very* little amount of adjustment by moving the bottom hinge 'back' a little and the top one 'forwards' a little. This yields almost no result as the screws are a fairly tight fit!
On with the 'how to': (at some point I may choose to include photos!)
The top hinge has an unusual design. If you loosen the bolt (I believe it's one of those special torx that they use - I used a 6mm allen key but it was quite loose) that joins the 2 hinge halves together (i.e. the bolt with the head that faces the floor) it actually allows you to adjust the door 'hang' quite a large amount. The bolt is in a 'slot' rather than a usual round hole and it can actually move backwards and forwards which is 'controlled' by the 'nut' it has on it. The nut is actually the metal flange which fits between the gap in the two hinges.
Once the bolt is a little loose (don't take it out!) half close the door and simply 'lift' the door up using the bottom hinge as a 'pivot' point. Once you reach the point you think is right, open the door all the way up (while still holding it up) and it will stay with that 'hang' adjustment. Do the bolt back up again (don't make it too tight just yet) and check the 'hang' now, it hopefully no longer hits the latch!
Once you have done that, and it is right, tighten it. If it isn't right, rinse and repeat!
The door now closes 100% and it's perfect again. Funny that the dealer couldn't get the door to hang properly - Surely they KNOW about this?!
Anyway, let me know if it helps you - or if you need help! It's VERY easy to do!
