  • Looking at a 06/07 Jetta FSI Manual...

    Hello everyone,

Been looking at cars for a while now, and the time is nearing to get one. My budget is up to $20,000 but I'd like to keep some of that aside from insurance, rego, etc.

I was looking at a mk4 GTI - but I figured why not a MK5 Jetta. Dramatically difference automobiles, but the Jetta is drawing me in because it's (a) newer (b) not taking all my budget, similar to the GTI.

A manual is a requirement - I've been driving autos for the past few years, just aching to get a manual. Of course, the only manuals for the Jetta were the 2.0 FSI - which produce little power - approx 150hp (110kW) with a reported 9.2 to 100KM/h. Is there any tuning options for these cars, or am I just wasting my time?

Or perhaps I'm just on the wrong track with a VW model, or even the wrong manufacture?

Being a young male (23) - Insurance is always high for me. I had a look at the jetta and at $1000 a year, it isn't too bad I suppose.

I'm going for the Jetta over the golf because I really prefer sedans over hatches..

and finally - is there anything I should be weary of the 06/07 Jettas?

    Cheers

Jetta TDI comes in a 6spd manual but the TFSI petrol comes only in DSG, so you should get one anyway and then retrofit a GTI wheel with paddle shifters. These come up regularly or can be sourced via eBay UK.

Jetta TFSI is a GTI in stealth mode.
Bizi's Jetta TDI: Blue Graphite w. factory leather & tint, plus + Enkei Racing NT03+M + Yokohama S Drive 18s, Koni FSD, Neuspeed coils, GTI RSB + brakes, InPro mirrors, VW navi, Modshack. Come for a drive through the twisties on Saturdaze.

My girlfriend and I just purchased a 2006 Jetta 2.0FSI. Ours is DSG but they are not 150hp, they are a GTI in a cloak. They are 147kw, I think that is about 205hp in the old money. They are essentially a GTI with a boot. The only problem you have specified is the price. You will be lucky to get one, including insurance, for under $20k. You never know. I haven't seen any manuals around in these so if you find one, you've done really well. Good luck. We love ours.

You said you were looking at a mk4 gti then why not an mk5 gti? They come in manual, if you look hard you will find one in your price range but it will probably have 100k+ they have a better interior and handling the stock jetta 2.0tfsi

Another option is mk5 golf gt 1.4tsi which are starting to get cheap.
