  • DSG clicking on shifting

Can anyone else hear their DSG click as they shift gears?

If I'm driving slowly (so no loud engine noise) with the windows down, I can clearly hear a click from the engine bay / gearbox area when I work through the gears manually on my DSG unit.

I can't recall ever hearing this noise before. My car only has 10,500kms on the odo though.

Not on mine that I have noticed mate. I will have a listen next time I'm at the wheel. I have noticed that when the car is cold and you go into manual mode, the gears really clunk into the next cog. Obviously, the car and components oil have to get up to operating temperature before you shift manually!! Weird I know, but it is all sweet once hot.

Yeah its not so much a clunking, just a click - like something snicking into place.

I have exactly the same noise; it's really just a faint click, certainly not a clunk and doesn't affect smoothness in any way. Only happens when in manual mode and doesn't seem to be affected by temp in my case. Strangely, it doesn't happen all the time though. It started for me at about the 35k mark. I've done a few forum searches in the past - DSG, Manual Mode 2 to 1 shift - clunk? - VW GTI Forum / VW Rabbit Forum / VW R32 Forum / VW Golf Forum - Golfmkv.com - and some people have suggested it's just part of normal operation (although this forum is hardly definitive!).

Would be very interested to hear others who have this also. I've done another 15k since it started and it's been in for a service and VW didn't say anything so I've assumed it's just normal...
