  • Thinking of getting a GTi DSG

    Hey guys

am a big fan of the GTI's and am thinking of getting one, joined these forums to do some reading and research before i buy one

Currently i have an 05 VZ Calais and a 97 TT Supra. looking to sell both soon to get a GTI. Golf V model 2005 - 2008 it would be.

Ill probably get flamed for posting this as im sure most newbies would, but are there any regular problems that arise with the 2005 - 2008 model GTI's to be aware of ? Ive heard that if the DSG goes then one could be up for an expensive repair bill - but is it that common for these to break

Cheers for any replies, in the meantime ill do some more searching + reading

    - Kam

    Welcome!
    Yes, DSG repair is expensive.
Common problems include faulty PCVs and DVs (both are relatively cheap to replace), rattles & creaks, failing aircon compressors (on earlier models), failing coilpacks (covered by a recall).

I would buy a later model example i.e. 08/09 and get extended warranty for a further 3 years.

        This!
You also get some extras such as a full height MFD from memory.

cheers for the info guys. yeh i would prefer one with warranty intact, as this will save me from a possibly large repair bill

the supra just sold yesterday, so i would just need to move the calais and then i could start looking at GTI's

i saw a new model on the road recently, fark their pretty good looking !

yes manuals are fun, but im also lazy. i love to relax and drive in an auto, and i cant really multitask when driving manual. plus im close to the city, so manual get very tedious in heavy traffic

Careful, any more of that crazy talk and they may kick you out of the Two Pedal Club.

Me too (I drive into city each work day (for many years)), my old manual car just got on my nerves too much.... it's the only reason I went for DSG. DSG = fun without hassle.
