Buckled my front wheel rim on a Bloody Brisbane Pothole
VW wants $550 for a new rim and don't have any in stock anyways

Race Engineering @ Sumner Park wants $253 to fix the rim. Does this sound reasonable? Any other reccomended repairers in Brissie?

Hmm, bugger a buckled rim is a bit more of an issue than a bit of kerbing. To be honest, without knowing how bad it is, I'd be looking at buying a new wheel???

You might try Western Suburbs Body Works (they did my rims after my wife did her braille parking acts). Don't know about buckled wheel ... but phone 3376 1914 & ask for Tony. They were 50% cheaper than Race Engineering but did an excellent job. They're in Seventeen Mile Rocks Road ... not far off the Western Freeway.

PS: Where was the pothole? I was cursing the bus in front of me today for going so slow until I realised he was slowing down for the 6inch difference in road height that exists in Newstead at present ...

Brisbane roads. Oh you mean the black stuff frequenting between the holes?

They are shocking for taking out mass portions of road and not even leaving a warning, or the wonderful patch jobs that come undone at the the next heavy rain.

I remember bottoming out in Newmarket when they had removed a whole intersection without a single sign! It was raining, making it hard to see the drop off, until on top of it.

This would probably be too small an issue for insurance.

Like Vulture Street and Stanley St at present in East Brisbane. Ridiculous. Even worse when travelling in a vehicle with solid axles (like my Jeep) - one wheel on the bumpy patch work, other on the even roadway!

I wouldn't repair a buckled rim - Most places refuse to do it unless it is very very minor.

Hit the council up for the cost - My brother did a similar thing when a pothole took out two of his rims. (But you'll have to go back and get photos of the pothole before they fix it)

$550 is actually pretty good. Try pricing a Subaru rim.....

I think I would prefer to buy a new rim but seeing that there's none available I don't have much choice. Centenary Bodyworks put me onto a guy in Ashmore Gold Coast who can do it for about $115(Thanks PeterMack!). Goes to show what a difference a bit of research makes I guess.
The tyre guys took the buckled rim off my front left and placed it onto my back left wheel-vibration is a bit better but still driving me crazy! Getting it done next wednesday, wish me luck!

I'm guessing that's Bill @ Depulu Wheels? I've had a fair bit of work done through him, and he is fantastic with pretty good prices. Had a buckled wheel fixed for around that much, which I think is a fair bit cheaper than other places will do it for. As a matter of fact, I have one of my wheels there as we speak being machined to fix a bit of curb-damage.
